Foreign student’s
summer earnings stolen:
State police are investigating a burglary in which a foreign student’s summer earnings were stolen. Cpl. Wes Barnett, state police spokesman, said a 20-year-old Czech Republic woman was living alone at an apartment on Bay Vista Road, because her former roommates had already left to return to their native countries.
Because she has plans to return to her country soon, she had withdrawn the funds from a local bank and hidden the money in her apartment. Sometime between 11 a.m., Sept. 6, and 5:50 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, while she stayed at a friend’s residence, someone broke into the apartment through a kitchen window.
Once inside, the burglar ransacked the apartment. Her passport and other personal documents were strewn about the bed, and her cash and the landlord’s 13-inch RCA television were stolen.
