Has anyone stayed at the Hilton Wilmington Christiana?

I have booked rooms here for two nights -- good deals on swank rooms, it seems. Has anyone stayed here? How does it compare to other spots -- was booked at the Montchanin, but their prices for what was left (they have a function going on at the time I needed it) were quite steep.

Also, dining suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks

No comparison between the Christiana Hilton and the Inn at Montchanin, which has recently garnered some seriously prestigious national awards. If you really want the kind of service and luxury you%26#39;d find at Montchanin, the only other place in the whole of northern Delaware is the Hotel DuPont in downtown Wilmington.

We do know lots of business travelers who have happily stayed at the Hilton over the past several years. For the Europeans, it was mostly because of the proximity to Christiana Mall. Now that the Euro is so strong against the dollar, that%26#39;s not such an attraction.

Reviews here are pretty darn good -- #4 of all hotels in Newark. (OK, granted, there aren%26#39;t many [any?] classy hotels in Newark.)

Where do you need/want to be? Not very far north of Montchanin, over the Delaware line into Pennsylvania, are Brandywine River Hotel or even Fairville Inn. Both more the size of Montchanin and un-chainlike.

Montchanin has Krazy Kats restaurant on site, if fabulous food/service is important. No great restaurants in Fairville. Brandywine Prime, the only walking distance fine dining near Brandywine River Hotel, is frankly overpriced and still struggling to find itself. (But just across the street is Hank%26#39;s Diner, a favorite locals%26#39; spot for down-home breakfast and lunch. Andrew Wyeth is often spotted there, but mostly in the winter.)

If you decide to stay in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania, instead of northern Delaware, post here or on the PA board (Chadds Ford is probably the best forum choice) and I%26#39;d be happy to recommend restaurants -- and other hotel options if you%26#39;d like.

We travel to Delaware frequently on business and like to stay at the Sheraton Suites downtown. Their rooms are like posh apartments and the beds, very comfy. Hotwire.com often has good rates. You%26#39;ll know it%26#39;s the Sheraton if a ';suite'; icon appears under the offer.

We have stayed at the Hilton. It is a nice tradtional hotel with the usual amenities, nothing remarkable but a safe bet. Delaware Park Race track and Casino is nearby but not too many restaurant choices. We love Sullivan%26#39;s Steakhouse on the Concord Pike (lots of food out that way). It%26#39;s a chain but a classy one. 821 Bistro is good downtown. Iron Hill Brewery, Grotto%26#39;s Pizza, the Charcoal Pit and Capriotti Subs all serve local casual favs.

Try www.delawaretoday.com. They just published their Best of Delaware awards.....lots of good info there from the locals!

Have a great trip.

Thanks very much -- The Montchanin was also booked solid, which is what made our selection inevitable (we would have had to switch rooms over a 2 night stay).

I had read negative reviews of the Sheraton on this site, so that made a difference, as did price, to be honest.

Restaurant choices will check out -- and check the suites again just in case.

Thanks
