why so much $$$$

Can anyone tell me why the east coast is soooo expensive? I am looking for an alternative to PCB in August and I am not finding anything even close to the price we are paying in florida for a beach side eff. motel room. Am I missing something here? Please help me find what I am looking for. DH and I are going on first vacation in years. We want to be on the coast somewhere for fresh seafood, walks on the beach, and good weather. We don%26#39;t require a 4 star hotel. In fact we usually prefer to stay at one of the mom and pop motels. Clean, efficiency room with ocean view is preferred. What I can find in Florida is about 74.00 per nite. HELP!! We leave in 15 days.

I think you are going to be hard pressed to find that kind of pricing not in Florida during the summer. In Delaware and Maryland, August is the prime vacation time for most families to go the beach. In fact, Washington, DC feels like a ghost town (compared to other times of year), as it seems everyone is at the beach.

One other thing I think you are finding is that many east coast beach destinations (outside of Florida) do not have major resorts or even many motels anymore. The land that those facilities once occupied has gone up in value so much that they have closed and moved further inland. You might want to check out the beaches in North Carolina or Virginia Beach to see if anyone is running a special.

I see on Travel Zoo.com a place in Savannah, GA and in Easton, MD that are both under $100 a night.

thanks, dctravel. Having never been to the east coast I was unaware the peak season was August. I will check out the two you suggested.
