DH and I are trying to plan a little get-away 8/21-8/24. I cannot decide where to go, and friends have reccomended Delaware park and Dover Downs, but there is little info on TA about either. Can anyone shed a little light? I know they are both casinos, that is the point to my trip, but I know very little else.
I also want to plan little side trips to see other areas close to either casino.
We are driving from Hershey, PA and don%26#39;t want to venture to AC this year.
Any help is very appreciated.
Questions about Delaware Park and Dover Downs
Both are racetracks also (DP = horses only, DD = horses and cars). Both casinos only offer video slots. Dover is the capital of DE, so there are plenty of history museums, Dover AFB, colleges, mall, etc. You are also an hours drive away from the beaches (restaurants, the boardwalk and tax-free outlet shopping). Gambling in DE Park would allow you to visit: Wilmingtons%26#39; Waterfront Shops (more tax-free shopping) Winterthur Museum, Longwood Gradens, see a minor league ball game at Frawley Stadium, shop at the Christiana Mall and eat at Mrs. Robino%26#39;s in Little Italy. You can also stop in Amish Country on the way back home. Take a look at our visitors website, www.visitdelaware.com.

Questions about Delaware Park and Dover Downs
One major difference is that there%26#39;s no hotel associated with Delaware Park. The closest hotel would probably be the Christiana Hilton, a few miles away, near the huge Christiana Mall (more tax-free shopping).
Dover Downs has a *very* nice hotel connected to the casino and also a very good French restaurant, Michele%26#39;s. There are more casual choices and a buffet.
The restaurants in the casino at Delaware Park are casual but good. No buffet. The White Clay Creek Country Club at Delaware Park has an upscale restaurant in the clubhouse, The Rail, but the service is SO dreadful I%26#39;d never recommend it.
Delaware Park and Dover Downs both have the virtual blackjack tables, which mimic a real game with a dealer pretty well but somehow fall within the video-only constraints of Delaware law. And BTW, ';video slots'; also include the old mechanical three-reel slots -- e.g., Double Diamonds -- that were all we knew a decade ago. So it%26#39;s not just the newer video multi-line-with-bonus slots, although there are lots of those now.
The two casinos are less than an hour apart, so regardless of where you choose to stay, you could always visit the other as well.
I can speak for Dover Downs as we visit there a few times a month.
The casino is clean, nice hotel, restaurants are available onsite. The buffett is large and over looks the monster mile, race track. During the morning and day it is quiet during the week. NIght it can be abit crowded. Drinks on the floor delivered cost $1.00 plus tip.
If you check doverdowns.com you can take a look at the hotel, casino and restaurants.
The area does offer other attractions and museums also the beaches are with an hour drive.
We go to A.C. each month except during the summer so Dover is a good day of fun.
Great advice here.
I suppose I agree that Dover Downs offers more indoors, but I sure love the track %26amp; grounds at DE Park (there%26#39;s a golf course there as well if that interests you).
Much to do elsewhere at either choice.
Yet another option is the casino %26amp; slots at the DE state fairgrounds in Harrington (about the middle of the state) but unless you enjoy touring chicken farms, there would be limited options for other things to see/do nearby.
Good thoughts on both venues. Dolcemia, you may want to reconsider going to AC. It%26#39;s summer and you have the beach and boardwalk. Also, you have real casinos, not just slot machine palors. Enjoy your get away!!!
