Dewey Beach

It seems that I will be going to Dewey Beach this Easter for a convention.

What is Dewey Beach like? Where should I stay?

Thanks

Dewey Beach

Dewey Beach is very much a college bar scene in the summer. Around Easter there probably won%26#39;t be much going on there though. There are a few restaurants that are open there year round, and others that may be open on the weekends in the spring. You will only be a few minutes south of Rehoboth Beach which has a number of great shopping outlets (tax free!), restaurants, and a nice boardwalk along the beach. There is a very nice hotel there, the Boardwalk Plaza, that is right on the beach. It can be a bit pricey but probably isn%26#39;t too bad that time of year. There are also a number of new hotels on Route 1 in that area (Holiday Inn, Sleep Inn, etc.). Where is your convention being held? Any special type of entertainment or restaurant you may be interested in?

Dewey Beach

Dewey Beach is a small beach town on the Delaware Coast . Dewey has great night life and during the summer offers beaches and watersports on both the Ocean and Rehoboth Bay. Dewey is known basically as a party town . Delaware is a state with NO Sales Tax there are 3 Factory outlet centers and an excellent choice of restaurants on Route One just north of Dewey. There are many hotels and motels throughout the area. The Hampton Inn one RT One is nice and offers a good continental breakfast. Quality Inn is also on RT One closer to Dewey. If the weather is nice The Rusty Rudder should have a band on their deck 4pm to 8pm. It%26#39;s right on the bay and nice.

Thanks for the info. I really know nothing about Dewey at all and only found out last night that I may be going there.

The convention is actually a greyhound one. If you are local to Dewey then no doubt you will have noticed the hundreds of greyhounds that gather in Dewey twice every year.

I just checked the Boardwalk but it seems to be fully booked already.

Are there any busy college holiday periods in April please? We hope to come from the 10th.

Thanks

Are you bringing a pet? Not all hotels/motels accept pets..I know that hotels which accept pets sell out months in advance for the October weekend. Many folks stay in Rehoboth also.Try the Breakers or Cape Suites they have both accepted pets for the October weekend. Also the AmericInn accepts pets and has an indoor pool but they are out on RT1 .If you are not bringing a pet try Quality Inn.

Hi,

We own a condo in Dewey Beach and we%26#39;ve seen the hordes of greyhounds (and the owners they bring along) in October. It%26#39;s an amazing event and one that Dewey is very proud to host. Didn%26#39;t realize there%26#39;s now a second weekend in the spring.

Dewey Beach is mostly two blocks wide. On the east is the ocean, on the west is a very large, shallow bay, Rehoboth Bay. That means most accommodations will have some kind of water view, which is really nice.

The town is only about a mile long. As others have said, it%26#39;s a major party town during the summer season. It%26#39;s pretty dead in winter, just beginning to liven up by Easter. Here%26#39;s the TripAdvisor map of the area, with hotels: tripadvisor.com/LocalMaps-g34008-Dewey_Beach… .

A mile north is Rehoboth Beach, a bigger town (but still only 1,400 or so year-round population). Although Dewey has some good restaurants (one, Venus on the Half Shell, is GREAT), Rehoboth is the renowned restaurant town. You could stay two weeks and visit a different outstanding restaurant every night -- all kinds of cuisine, all excellent.

Here%26#39;s a list from the Rehoboth Beach/Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce of hotels/motels that allow pets, if you are indeed bringing a dog: www.beach-fun.com/index.cfm…

The CofC also offers a vacation planning kit you might want to order: www.beach-fun.com/index.cfm…

If you are not bringing a dog, you could consider a rental property, particularly if you%26#39;ll be in Dewey more than two nights. (Rentals rarely allow pets.) Our rental agent is Long %26amp; Foster; here%26#39;s a website to contact them: longandfoster.veristay.com/Contactus.aspx. (Our condo isn%26#39;t available till late June, so we%26#39;re not angling for your rental. I just think the folks there, particularly Alma and Penny, could help you in your search.)

Easter is early April this year. The weather is unpredictable at that time of year. Temps could be in the 40-50 degrees (F) range in the daytime, but if you%26#39;re lucky you might have 70+ degrees in the daytime. Ocean water temp will be around 60 degrees -- you can wade, but only the truly intrepid swim without a wet suit.

Let us know what you enjoy in the way of cuisine, and we can certainly make recommendations (brunch with killer Bloody Marys? Dewey has the spot! Sushi, steakhouse, fresh seafood? All within a few miles). Budget for some fine dining and you won%26#39;t be disappointed. Just dawned on me, there%26#39;s a great fish %26amp; chips place on the beach block of Rehoboth Ave., Go Fish. Brit decor, including signs from London tube stops. So if you get homesick . . .

Hope you enjoy your visit! We%26#39;ve never been to your area of the UK, but have enjoyed trips to Yorkshire, Norwich, and of course, London.

Wthany... Very nice post . I%26#39;m glad that you also were not aware of the Grey Hound Weekend in the Spring. You can probally tell by my screen name exactly where I live around here. I even asked 2 local hotel owners and no one is aware that they are coming .It will be a big weekend!!!.

Longnecker,

We%26#39;ve been going to Dewy for 30+ years and have owned various properties there since 1976. I certainly know Long Neck. We know folks in PotNets Bayside, and my brother has a condo way out near the end of Long Neck.

Yeah, I%26#39;m amazed there%26#39;s now a second Greyhound weekend, esp. scheduled for such a major tourist weekend. The one in October works well because there%26#39;s not much else going on that weekend. But more power to %26#39;em. I%26#39;m a cat person, but after meeting the dogs and talking to their owners, if I were ever to get a dog I%26#39;d seriously consider adopting a greyhound. They%26#39;re beautiful and seem to have wonderful personalities.

Anne in PA

i didn%26#39;t know a second one was planned, either! haven%26#39;t seen anything about it yet in the cape gazette. what a wonderful sight it is!

a few years ago we were there for the october weekend %26amp; went to the ';beer %26amp; biscuit ball';, that was astounding fun (we left our jack russells at the house)

Just saw this %26amp; wondered in U2fanatic is bringing their dog(s) %26amp; if they found a place to stay. Seems like it would be difficult, so if anyone knows of pooch-friendly accomodations, please post!
