Rehoboth, Bethany, Dewey

Hi, We are thinking of going to Rehoboth Beach for the 4th of July. We have never stayed in the area, but it was recommeded as a nice alternative. We typically go to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard, Cape Cod, etc.

Can anyone help define the 3 different areas? I heard Rehoboth was the nicest with great restaurants.. We are in our late 30%26#39;s and like fun/ but also good restaurants, etc.

Rehoboth, Bethany, Dewey

I%26#39;ll answer but take me with a grain of salt because I%26#39;m not a regular visitor anymore....I spent an aweful lot of time there but now live just a bit south.

Rehoboth has long been an outstanding family beach destination, with the traditional boadwalk, outside concerts, gentle waves and beautiful architecture in the homes and small rooming houses. As of late the gay culture has brought in top-shelf restaurants and....high prices. Still a very family friendly place, RB will always call me. Dewey is a few minutes south and is later, younger, louder, and fun for your age bracket. Home to the Rusty Rudder and Bottle and Cork, it%26#39;s more of a party village. Bethany is much quieter, about

15? miles further south. Smaller, great beaches, not as much variety but closer-knit than Dewey or RB.

My wife and I would love to come ';home'; to RB but current real estate market keeps us here.

Let others recommend a good B%26amp;B in RB for you. Huge selection of restaurants, distrctions, etc. and for nitelife Dewey is just a few minutes away.

How%26#39;d I do?

Rehoboth, Bethany, Dewey

PMO711, Just up the road from Rehoboth are the OUTLETS. You can shop till you drop and it%26#39;s all TAX FREE. There%26#39;s also a large go-cart racetrack there, too. Further up the road is the quaint town of Lewes. Lots of shops to browse. You can ride the 70 minute ferry to Cape May, NJ while you%26#39;re in Lewes. This is a town with lots of victorian architecture-style homes, great outside mall full of stores and plenty of B%26amp;B%26#39; s (future vacation trip?). I highly recommend visiting if you have the time.

Hi, Is there a better area to stay. i have a potential rental about 1 mile away I see south Rehoboth, North, Beach, by sea.. We are looking at someplace that says it it 1 Mile to beach and 1.5 miles to town..

Not sure where that would put us in Rehoboth.

Thanks for your help.

It would probably be a good idea to get the exact address and map the location of the place you%26#39;re looking at.

If you%26#39;re a mile from the beach, it could be on the east side of Route 1. That would be desirable, because you could walk to a lot of locations in town. It would be a long walk to the beach, though, esp. if you carry a lot of gear; parking closer is tough during holiday periods.

If the place is on the west side of Route 1, walking to downtown is not really possible. You could use the Park %26amp; Ride (the bus) lot on Route 1 near the Rehoboth Ave. intersection. It%26#39;s cheaper than a parking space for more than a few hours, and lots less hassle.

You may also want to look for a rental in Lewes which is a few miles north of Rehoboth .It is historic and very quaint .It has great restaurants,a beach on the bay and ocean access through Cape Henlopen State Park. That week if the beach is important to you find a place within walking distance. Thre will not be much parking and traffic on Rt 1 is nasty over the holiday . Rehoboth will have fireworks.

i wouldn%26#39;t rule out rentals in dewey, either. especially NORTH dewey.

we own a house there, which we do NOT rent...just share with family.

the street we%26#39;re on has a couple rental properties %26amp; is fairly quiet, depending on who is renting the few rentals....

don%26#39;t everybody get so down on dewey! it can be very family friendly!

our grandkids %26amp; the kids belonging to neighbors have A blast!

and keep in mind...

dewey %26amp; rehoboth...walking distance.

Dogmom, I hope you didn%26#39;t mean me! Our family house is one of the few remaining original houses in Indian, right next door. I love Dewey, but saying that it%26#39;s louder and later is a fair comparisaon to RB.

Since you typically vacation at the Cape or Vineyard, I would definitely recommend either Rehoboth or Lewes. Lewes is lovely, but it is quite tiny .... you can see the town in an afternoon, and there%26#39;s not a huge vareity of restaurants, although there are some good ones. Also, you%26#39;re on the bay, not the ocean.

Rehoboth is busier and has a lot more to do. It%26#39;s direct on the ocean. You can%26#39;t go wrong with either..it just comes down to personal taste.

If you stay in RB, you want to be walking distance to town, especially on the 4th, as traffic is a zoo. Any of the RB neighborhoods you mentioned would be fine (North, South, The Pines)...they all have their charms. You should look for a rental that is no more than 4 or so blocks to the ocean and/or to Rehoboth avenue (the main drag). A mile away is too far!

keywest, of course it%26#39;s a fair comparison! and as far as the towns themselves go, i think rehoboth%26#39;s nicer! prettier architecture, beautiful yards, etc. mostly i just wanted to point out that they%26#39;re SO close together the restaurants %26amp; shops are a snap to get to from dewey %26amp; it shouldn%26#39;t be ruled out on that account.

Dewey does tend to be quieter north of the ';split'; in the road. the actual majority of the houses on our street, for instance, are not rental properties %26amp; several belong to year-round residents. it%26#39;s very rare that we%26#39;re disturbed by party noise at night. (more often we%26#39;re disturbed during the day by people yelling at their kids LOL)

that part of the town is posted as ';residential'; %26amp; the police are almost TOO enthusiastic sometimes about responding to noise complaints.

p.s. our first experience staying in the area was a rental at indian beach! very nice %26amp; quiet! but all 4 of us kept saying ';wish we could have brought the dogs';.... we ended up buying our dewey place on that very trip for that very reason!
