i don%26#39;t know when, but it%26#39;s going to be demolished %26amp; houses built on that land.
the owners (highway 1) want to do the same thing with ruddertowne, but that%26#39;s still under debate.

So we%26#39;ve heard, DogMom. Bummer!! Venus is definitely the best restaurant in Dewey (though it%26#39;s only open in season).
Ruddertowne didn%26#39;t exist when we first bought property in Dewey, so life will go on if it disappears, but I know the younger crowd will miss all the activity there.
But I do believe property owners have the right to do what they please with their property if it%26#39;s within zoning and other regulations -- which apparently is the case with Ruddertowne. If it%26#39;s bad for the town, it%26#39;s not Highway One%26#39;s fault, it%26#39;s the fault of town government for not implementing better zoning way back when.

well, not only the ';younger'; crowd will miss ruddertown. we occasionally have lunch at the lighthouse or the rudder....%26amp; i really like being able to walk to the bookstore......though my favorite is ';browesabout'; on the avenue in rehoboth, i have found things they DIDN';T have at ';books%26amp;coffee'; . and i liked being able to have lunch or a drink outside looking at the bay %26amp; hearing ';the island boyz'; on occasion.
nice to have some bay access, too. that%26#39;s what%26#39;ts being fought over, bay access. hope they can come to some compromise that allows a mixed use for these properties.
Dogmom,
Hadn%26#39;t dawned on me that the Ruddertowne pier is a big part of the controversy. Isn%26#39;t that used primarily by boaters who may come to The Rudder to eat, but not by Dewey residents or visitors?
The place that rents jet skis and the marina where you can rent pontoon boats wouldn%26#39;t be affected, would they?
I guess I just figure that if there%26#39;s a vacuum created by Ruddertowne%26#39;s disappearance, it%26#39;ll quickly be filled by other ventures. There seem to be empty storefronts along the main drag -- maybe they%26#39;ll turn into good restaurants and bars.
We%26#39;ll really miss being able to walk to Venus and to Ruddertowne. But we miss Waterfront and Coconuts, too! Nothing lasts forever . . . except maybe The Cork . . .
We%26#39;re in Dewey this week and boy! is it quiet!! Had an inch of snow earlier this week, and it%26#39;s been bitter cold. But we actually like it this way!
there%26#39;s been talk of an eminent domain seisure of ruddertowne by the city, the belief being that there is a public interest in maintaining ruddertowne, given that it is the economic core of Dewey. i hope they do it!! highway one has been walking all over the town throughout this process and it%26#39;s time they%26#39;re put in their place. tired of this property rights nonsense!
