Bethany Beach or Fenwick Island?

I want to take my wife on a weekend getaway in July.

I want to be walking distance to beach and walking distance to some decent restaurants. Maybe somewhere to have a few beers, but nothing rowdy.

Bethany seemed like the perfect place, but a lot of people have wrote about how it has changed (loud and crowded beaches)

We are looking for something that is a little more quiet, but like I said above, where I can get a few beers in the evening.

I like everything to be within walking distance.

Would you reccomend Bethany or Fenwick?

thanks!!!

Bethany Beach or Fenwick Island?

Why not try Cape May, NJ. Our last get-a-way without the kids was there. Beautiful victorian architectural-style houses (B%26amp;B%26#39;s) and lots of shoppes and restaurants. All within walking distance.

Bethany Beach or Fenwick Island?

Been there before (multiple times)

Looking for something new, but thanks for the tip!

A lot of the choice will make sense when you look at the geography of the two towns.

Fenwick Island is largely an extension of the quieter part of north Ocean City, Maryland. All the commercial activity is spread out along Coastal Highway, which runs very close (500 feet) to the ocean and is fairly well spread out. You have lots of vehicular traffic to contend with, but there%26#39;s plenty of parking in lots along the strip centers. It doesn%26#39;t feel very crowded with everything spread out over the course of a mile along both sides of the highway.

When you hit Bethany Beach, the highway runs 1/4 mile west of the beach and most of the commercial activity is along the east-west street (Garfield Parkway) connecting the highway to the beach. Parking is pretty much street-only, metered and is often tough to find and the street can get crowded with pedestrians.

Bethany is, on the whole, more upscale than Fenwick. The presence of a boardwalk, albeit a short one, gives its beach a much different feel than Fenwick%26#39;s and may contribute to what you%26#39;re perceiving as a loud and crowded beach.

Part of Fenwick%26#39;s attraction is its proximity to all the amenities Ocean City has to offer while its beachfront remains fairly quiet and quaint--primarily older single-family houses (unlike OC%26#39;s condos).
