Midway next Sunday or Monday? Help!!!

I%26#39;m flying from Los Angeles to see my 94-year-old mother-in-law in Columbia MD this coming Saturday. I planned to drive her and three friends to Midway so they can play the slots. I pictured a little gambling town or neighborhood at least--I didn%26#39;t realize it was just one establishment. I imagine it gets quite crowded in the summer.

There is a car show, I think opening this weekend at the fairgrounds. And on Sunday Midway slots doesn%26#39;t open until noon. Can anyone predict which day will be busier, Sunday or Monday? Those are my only choices. More people will be back to work on Monday, and I would think that Sunday a lot of people would go to the car show, then to the slots. I just don%26#39;t know enough to make the best decision. I%26#39;d love some help. Thanks!

Midway next Sunday or Monday? Help!!!

You should know that Delaware Park racetrack has slots and is the same distance (~85 miles) from Columbia as is Midway.

The roads to Delaware Park are much better/faster than those to Midway, you can get there in a little over one hour versus two hours for Midway.

Finally, if your group gets tired of playing slots and wants to do something else, there%26#39;s more for them to do around Wilmington than there is around Harrington.

Sorry, don%26#39;t know about how busy either location would be on a particular day, but I think overall Delaware Park would be a better choice.

Midway next Sunday or Monday? Help!!!

One other consideration: If you choose Midway, you will be contending with *major* traffic headed to the Delaware/Maryland beaches (weekly rentals generally turn over on Saturday). Expect delays along the way, especially at the Bay Bridge. Your two-hour trip to Midway might actually be closer to three...versus perhaps 75 minutes to Delaware Park.

Sorry, mis-read your first post and I realize you%26#39;re not going Saturday. If you do choose Midway, I%26#39;d go on Monday. You will likely get caught up in heavy weekend beach traffic on your return trip back to Columbia if you choose Sunday.

Tubman, I thank you for your thoughtful replies. And I%26#39;m glad to hear about an alternative!

I%26#39;m concerned about there not being enough slots available for us due to crowding. I%26#39;ll be in an awkward situation with a 94-year-old in a wheelchair plus three octagenerians and I want as few hassles as possible.

Previously I was concerned about rush hour on Monday, but I%26#39;m glad you brought up beach traffic. Don%26#39;t I have to cross the bridge for both options?

I%26#39;ll investigate your suggestion today. Thanks.

Midway involves using the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the only practical route back from all the Delaware and Maryland beaches for the weekenders who live in the Baltimore and Washington areas. Backups and delays from the Bridge on Sunday afternoon and evenings in summer have a ripple effect on the roads leading to Rt. 50 (specifically 404, which is largely a two-lane rural highway).

Delaware Park is towards the northeast, uses a different route (Interstate 95) and doesn%26#39;t involve crossing the Chesapeake. There are several tolls you%26#39;ll encounter on this trip (versus one at the Bay Bridge) and occasionally you%26#39;ll encounter delays around the tollbooths on 95.

This should all make sense when you look at it on a map.

Sounds good. I%26#39;ve been to Cape Cod on a Saturday and I know what beach traffic can be like at its worst. I don%26#39;t need that!

So back to the Sunday vs Monday question. Rush hour traffic vs weekend traffic. How busy the slots are. Do you have any ideas?

Due to the 3-hour time difference, I%26#39;m not that keen on leaving early in the morning. Departing after 9 a.m. would work for me. I can see us spending 3 hours there with lunch. So possibly we could begin the return trip by 3 p.m.

Now, on to the Dover Downs website. Thanks again.
