My mom has decided that for her 50th bday she would like to visit all 50 states and I have agreed to be her unofficial travel agent. Problem is there are lots of places that we really don%26#39;t know much about, Delaware being one of them. My dad and her love to ride their Motorcycle and are big fans of ';off the beaten path'; trips; this doesn%26#39;t rule out the must see%26#39;s in any given state but it also doesn%26#39;t make the Empire State Building a requirement for her trip to NY. They enjoy relaxing but can also get into a good game or be history buffs on any given day. Our big concern with this trip is that my dad was diagnosed with MS this past year and she wants to make sure that he is as comfortable as possible. Her bday is March 28th and I%26#39;d like to have a complete itinerary for her by then so any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.
50 for 50Britt....I have a few suggestions for DE and PA. Northern Delaware is becoming over-populated, but don%26#39;t let that you stop from visiting. Historic Olde New Castle is a quaint little village with lots of colonial history and some nice shoppes and restaurants. Northern DE is also home to what we call ';Chateau Country';. Lots of mansions and museums built by E I DuPont and his heirs. Central DE is home to Dover Air Force Base. There is an Air Mobility Museum open to the public. Lots of WW II equipment and planes you can tour. Lower DE is all about the beaches. Plus you can take the ferry over to NJ when you%26#39;re ready to visit there. One recommendation is to buy lots of stuff here in DE. We don%26#39;t have any sales tax.
You have to visit the PA Dutch Country in Lancaster County. I would plan on a few days of shopping and eating in this beautiful country of the Amish people. You also have to see Longwood Gardens. A beautifully landscapped garden with fountains, outdoor theatre and conservatory. Thanks to the Dupont family, again.
50 for 50Lower Delaware is all about the beaches is a very true statement . From May to mid-October it is a great place to visit. The end of March/beginning of April it doesn%26#39;t offer much. There is taxfree outlet shopping and historic Lewes(the first town in the first state). There are some nice hotels and restaurants open year round but no real attractions.
Thanks for the great start, Olde New Castle sounds wonderful as do the beaches, I never would%26#39;ve known the best time to send them so I appreciate having some starting ground.
