We have never been to the Delaware beaches. We will be going early August. Which area would be best with kids? We would like to stay ';on the beach';.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Summer Vacation 2 kids (7%26amp;10) - Bethany or Rehoboth
Both towns are family resorts with good beaches. RehobothBeach has a great boardwalk .Play Land has amusements at reasonable prices Rehoboth also has 3 Outlet Shopping centers out on the main highway . Bethany has no outlets and not much of a boardwalk. Which ever one you choose PAT ATTENTION TO THE SPEED LIMITs and feed the parking meters.

With kids that age, I%26#39;d lean towards Rehoboth if you%26#39;re there for a full week. Bethany simply doesn%26#39;t have enough in the way of amusements to keep them occupied for long if/when they%26#39;re tired of just hanging out on the beach.
If you stay in Bethany, I think you%26#39;ll likely find yourself traveling 25 minutes north to Rehoboth (or south to OCMD) in order to fully amuse them with waterparks and the like. Public parking can be VERY difficult in Rehoboth; having a space in town by virtue of renting there is huge.
I stayed in Sea Colony Oceanside in Bethany last year with 7 and 10 yo boys. Found the room at resortquest dot com and it was wonderful. Yes, we went to rehoboth for amusements a few nights (20 mins drive), but bethany is beautiful and very family oriented.
It really comes down to what you are looking for in a family vacation. Personally, we preferred staying in Bethany with the more low-key type of activities and then making the trips North (Reheboth) and South (Ocean City) for the excursions and commercial activities. While the Boardwalk and downtown area in Bethany is much smaller, it is also much less crowded and still provides a variety of things to do as a family. (Hence the tag line ';The Quiet Resort'; for Bethany)
With kids that age, I would choose Bethany and most likely Sea Colony (check out vacation rentals.com). If you stay on the ocean side, there are pools right beside the beach so you can hop between the beach and the pool. There arts and crafts every day on the promenode and there is a kids camp every night where your kids watch movies and are fed pizza and you can go out to dinner by yourself for a night. A trip to Funland in Rehoboth is a lot of fun and not expensive.
