DogMom,
Was your friend one of the two who voted against the proposed development? If so, tell him/her to run for Council next time and our vote is his/hers.
We are actually thinking about driving down on July 13 just for the town meeting. I could NOT BELIEVE that the architectural committee passed it along to the Town Council. I thought it was either the height of cowardice or the epitome of special interests influencing decision-makers to act against the clear will of the citizenry.
We are definitely opposed to this travesty and we%26#39;ll be making our views known to all the elected officials before that July 13 meeting. For a while, we thought, Oh, who cares, we%26#39;re so far north of the complex it doesn%26#39;t matter what happens down at the south end.
But now we believe it really does matter. The proposed structure is an abomination. The height is a problem, yeah, but the design is what%26#39;s totally objectionable! And if the height limits are waived for one developer, how quickly will many more apply for variances? And if denied, how much can the town (our tax dollars at work) afford to fight the appeals?
I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ve found this, but the preserve dewey site is at: http://www.preservedeweybeach.com/

yes, our friend anna gave us that address...and yes, she voted against it. she was in a rage over this when we saw her the other day....we%26#39;re going out to dinner with her %26amp; her husband on friday night so will hear more i%26#39;m sure!
Please keep us posted.
I just read somewhere that the July 13 meeting is only to decide whether to put a referendum question on the ballot this fall? So now I%26#39;m trying to determine whether they ever fixed the problem, created by some new DE law last year, that doesn%26#39;t allow non-residents to vote absentee.
There%26#39;s an artist%26#39;s rendering on the front page of the Cape Gazette this week, of a proposed community out by Nassau Orchards. Some of their buildings will be 60 feet high, the tallest in Sussex County . . . which must be about six stories, the same as proposed for Ruddertowne.
But in the case of the Nassau development, the tall buildings look just fine in the context of the whole proposed development.
The Dewey proposal looks like someone has plopped a Mayan temple at the edge of Rehoboth Bay, with no regard for the style or feel of the surrounding community.
correct......the meeting will determine whether to have a
referendum.\our friend gave us ';petition forms'; which i mailed todayl
