Trying to decide between Rehoboth Beach & Bethany Beach

Trying to decide between Rehoboth Beach %26amp; Bethany Beach for a mid-week vacation with my 15 month old. Which would be better %26amp; why? Any hotel/condo/reccommendations?

We don%26#39;t like Ocean City,MD so want to stay in DE.

For a short stay, I%26#39;d call it a tossup based largely on your own interests. The two towns are close enough (20 minutes) so that it wouldn%26#39;t be a huge mistake to choose one in which to stay and visit the other.

If you choose Rehoboth, you%26#39;ll be less likely to find yourself going to Bethany than the other way around. Rehoboth simply has more (outlet stores, amusements, upscale restaurants) going on than Bethany, but none of that may matter to you. At 15 months, your kid will probably get the most amusement on the beach eating sand, regardless of whether it%26#39;s Rehoboth or Bethany sand.

Rehoboth also has far more hotel rooms than Bethany--you may find it difficult to rent a condo for less than a week, so that may make Rehoboth your choice by default.

Where I%26#39;d give the Bethany the edge is that it%26#39;s smaller and far less crowded than Rehoboth, which makes logistics like finding a decent parking space easier along their downtown commercial strip.

Clear as mud?

Mid-week accomodation at any of the beaches is tricky in August. Hotels are expensive and all the decent homes have been spoken for.

The universe changes, though, after Labor Day. I can%26#39;t imaging your 15-month old will be going back to school in the Fall like most other vacationers, so you will have the place to yourself. Crowds disappear, rates plummet, parking miraculously opens up (and depending on the city and your timing, the meters vanish). Yet, the water is at its peak temperaure, the temperature has mellowed just a bit from the dog days of August, and the outlets stage their real sales.

Don%26#39;t forget about Lewes to the north of Rehoboth (about 15 minutes, oops....10 minutes off-season) and Fenwick Island (10 minutes south of Bethany). Both off these are sans boardwalk and a little quieter than the two beaches you mention.

With a 15 month old, I would pick Rehoboth over Bethany. Rehoboth%26#39;s boardwalk is longer for stroller strolls. A little more activities going on in Rehoboth. Bethany is mostly residental, (there is a boardwalk-a small one, and 1 street with a couple of blocks shopping) , but harder to get around with a 15 month old.

I%26#39;m not crazy about OC either, I find Rehoboth to be quite perfect.
