Hi, my husband and I have the opportunity to getaway for a Saturday night and are thinking of visiting the Riverfront. I%26#39;m looking for any suggestions for things to do etc...
We will most likely stay at the Hotel DuPont but it looks like it%26#39;s not in walking distance to anywhere is that true? Can we walk to our hotel and the bars/restaurants at the riverfront.
Someone mentioned it was similar to Baltimore%26#39;s Inner Harbor is that the case?
We are debating between Wilmington where we%26#39;ve never visited and Philly so any advice would be great
Thanks
Visiting riverfront?
It%26#39;s about two miles from the Hotel DuPont to the Riverfront shops, and definitely not a safe walk at night.
If you like Broadway theater, you might schedule your visit to see a play at the DuPont Theater in the hotel: http://www.duponttheatre.com/. Or take in a performance at The Grand, a few blocks away: http://www.grandopera.org/events/
Here%26#39;s info on the very few shops still at the Riverfront:
www.riverfrontwilm.com/index.php…
Near the shops is the Riverfront Center. Here%26#39;s the Dec. calendar:
www.centerontheriverfront.com/index.php… Also in that area is the Center for Contemporary Art www.thedcca.org and the Delaware Theater Company http://www.delawaretheatre.org/.
The best feature of the Riverfront is the restaurants: www.riverfrontwilm.com/index.php… You%26#39;ll have a good meal at Conley Ward, Harry%26#39;s Seafood, or Iron Hill Brewery. Molly%26#39;s is an ice cream place, and I don%26#39;t know about Timothy%26#39;s. Haven%26#39;t heard good things about Joe%26#39;s. The little farmers%26#39; market next to Harry%26#39;s is cute, but it%26#39;ll take maybe 20 minutes to get through the whole thing.
But to be honest, comparing the Riverfront to the Inner Harbor is like comparing McDonald%26#39;s (OK, maybe Applebee%26#39;s) to Le Bec Fin.
If you decide on Wilmington, there are lots of things worth seeing in the area, but they%26#39;re mostly outside the city limits: www.riverfrontwilm.com/index.php… and http://www.thebrandywine.com/

Thanks so much for the info. It seems like we might find more to do in Philly than here, we were just looking for somewhere new to go but not too far away as we can only stay one night.
Are there enough stores to browse through in an afternoon?
Licia
Licia,
Yep, lots more to do in Philly since it%26#39;s so much bigger.
There are seven stores left at the Riverfront:
Blair, Coldwater Creek, Factory Brand Shoes, Hanes/L%26#39;Eggs/Bali/Playtex, Nautica, Totes/Isotoner, Vanity Fair. I can%26#39;t imagine spending a whole afternoon unless you try on a lot of clothes and shoes.
Coincidentally, I just visited Bethlehem for the first time a few weeks ago -- loved it, esp. Apollo Grill and the Banana Factory! I want to go back for the Christkindlmarkt. When do you think would be the least crowded weekday?
