Family restaurant recommendations?

Hi all -- love reading the reviews and responses in the Rehoboth forum. After a long wait, our vacation to Rehoboth is a little over a week away. Now I%26#39;m wondering about family friendly restaurants -- any recommendations? We%26#39;re a family of four, with two kids (ages 5 and 3). The attention span for most restaurant outings is limited, so we%26#39;re looking for kid-friendly and budget-friendly options with good food (of course!). Thanks in advance!

Family restaurant recommendations?

Hi Beach - Just got back and had a 13 month old with us (grandson) so it was really important for us to try to find kid friendly places. There are two right off the top of my head that are right on or a block away from the boardwalk area. One is Grotto%26#39;s Pizza and the other is Nicola%26#39;s Pizza. Both are practically historical landmarks in Rehoboth. Grotto%26#39;s, while known all over for its%26#39; great pizza, also has an extensive menu of other items such as pasta, various cheesesteak sandwiches, subs, salads, etc. Nicola%26#39;s has various pizza and sandwich selections and is the home of the ';Nicaboli'; The Grottos location on Rehoboth Avenue (about one block from the boardwalk) also offers breakfast. Nic%26#39;s usually ALWAYS has a waiting line so if you choose going there, you will want to consider going at a time that isn%26#39;t a popular meal time.

There is also a Mexican restaurant called Dos Locos which was very reasonably priced and the food was typical Mexican fare.

We also went out on Route 1 just about a mile south of the Rehoboth turnoff to Big Fish. Is mostly all seafood as the name suggests, but they did have a kids menu with non-seafood options. Personally, we did not care for the food here, but it definitely was very kid friendly.

Grottos and Nic”s were the closest thing on/in the boardwalk area that we found somewhat budget friendly, however there are also “Chain” places just a little north (couple of miles) on Route 1. Cracker Barrel comes to mind immediately. Here are a couple of websites for you:

www.grottopizza.com

http://www.rehoboth.com/visitorservices.asp - please don’t be fooled by some of the restaurants listed on this site as being family and casual dining. While some of them are, a lot of them on this particular list were kind of pricey. We also went to Adriaticas (on the list) which was average fare, but could be considered a little pricey.

www.jakesseafood.com – We also ate here. Is about a block from the beach and the prices were reasonable and food was pretty good. The kids menu does have seafood and non-seafood options. Their menu and prices are listed on their website.

The local phone book will have some of the restaurants listed with menus and you can also get one of the free local travel guides usually in the lobby of your hotel/condo. We also just got out and walked the family friendly streets and stumbled into a couple of these restaurants.

One thing we noticed about a lot of the restuarants in Rehoboth is that they have a lot of unusual dishes that definitely didn%26#39;t appeal to us (one had rabbit and guinea) and most were on the pricey side. We were in a condo located right off the boardwalk, so we did most breakfasts and lunches there. Otherwise, we found that we ate a lot of our meals at Grottos.

One more thing, make sure you try some Thrasher Fries. This is the only thing they serve, but you can choose different size containers and the large is HUGE. They are the original Boardwalk Fries cooked in peanut oil. Sprinkle a little vinegar on them and they are delicious. Just be aware that they are vey hot (temperature) so they will need to cool off before your little ones can dig in.

Hope all of this info helps. Enjoy your trip.

Family restaurant recommendations?

Thanks so much for your recommendations. We were at Rehoboth about 5 years ago, when my son was still a baby and I don%26#39;t remember much except for Grotto%26#39;s and Thrashers. I did check the visitor site you recommended and was kind of surprised by some of the family restaurants they mentioned. I guess they are considered family if they offer a kid%26#39;s menu, but I wouldn%26#39;t want to take my little wild ones to anywhere too fancy :) I was curious about the Mexican place since we are definitely Mexican lovers, so I appreciate your help! We%26#39;ll be staying at Brighton Suites, so only a block from the boardwalk. Looking forward to it...

I think BeachAttack may have left already, but here goes:

In Rehoboth, VERY few places have reasonable prices, let alone cheap.

There is one where you will not believe the low price...it%26#39;s an AYCE Chinese Buffet called Panda in the Rehoboth Mall. They don%26#39;t advertize %26amp; it%26#39;s never crowded (mostly all locals). A wide variety of good food (not all Chinese items) and AYCE crab legs are available for just $3. more pp. An unbeatable bargain.

PS: For Mexican we like Tiajuana Taxi on the north side of Rehoboth Ave. (I think it%26#39;s in the third block from the beach), Both places are very family friendly.

Thanks Daddio... we leave on Sunday, so I%26#39;m glad to get your restaurant tips before we%26#39;re out the door! Appreciate the help.

Yet another Mexican restaurant, on Route 1 at Midway (maybe 10 minutes north of Rehoboth) is La Tolteca. Definitely family friendly.

Right next to it is the Roadhouse Steak Joint, where you eat peanuts while perusing the menu and you GET TO THROW THE SHELLS ON THE FLOOR! Emphasis because the preschoolers in my life think that is just *THE* coolest thing! LOL! Good kids%26#39; menu, complete with crayons, and the prices are reasonable.

In Dewey Beach, just south of Rehoboth, Crabber%26#39;s Cove at Ruddertowne is fun %26amp; priced for families. Every afternoon there%26#39;s a steel drum band on the deck -- starts at 4, I think. Mama Maria Italian Restaurant nearby is good for kids, too.

Also in Dewey is a great little playground: http://www.townofdeweybeach.com/attract.htm

Hope you have a great time!

I%26#39;ve never thought of any of the Ruddertown restaurants as being ';budget friendly'; but I did forget to mention ';southbeach'; (which is a bayfront restaurant in Dewey under the same ownership.) north of Ruddertown, next to Coconuts.

You can dine inside (A/C), outside but under roof, or kick your shoes off %26amp; sit in the sand under the palm trees. Their menu is not too brutal but not cheap either, but check this out:

Tues %26amp; Thurs. nights are ';Beat the Clock Lobster nights';: Get there before 5pm %26amp; get a lobster dinner for $9.95! The price goes up $1. each hour thereafter to a max of $12.95. Then check their drink specials...try to go when you can get a ';Dewey Devil'; for $1. (that%26#39;s also an unbeatable deal).

PS: Everbody%26#39;s tastes are different, but we don%26#39;t refer guests to Ann Marie%26#39;s anymore, too many complaints. For Italian I would suggest Adriatico instead...check for their coupons in the free papers.
