We travel to the area several times a year and always visit either Longwood Gardens or the Winterthur Museum. (15 minutes from each other)

I like to stay at the Hilton in Delaware. It%26#39;s a nice drive from the Brandywine Valley area...but still close to major shopping and restaurants. They have special pacakges that include ticket to both places - or you can just buy tickets yourself from the Front Desk. (Saves you $3 per ticket plus tax per person vs. paying at the door at Longwood)

The Terrace Restaurant inside Longwood isn%26#39;t worth your time. Instead stop at either Buckley%26#39;s or Pizza by Elizabeth%26#39;s (gourment pizza, cool martini%26#39;s, salds and good desserts...where the upper crust go instead of McDonalds) - both on Rt. 52 and close to Longwood.

If you have to go on a Friday-Saturday...be ready for long lines at night carving their way through the inside of the Conservatory. It is so crowded you%26#39;ll crawl along at a snails pace. Avoid this by going in the early afternoon (2-3pm) and take your time, leaving the indoor facilitys to stroll the AMAZINGLY lit outdoor grounds on your way out...just as it gets dark..and avoid a lot of the crowds this way.
