Rehoboth or Dewey vacation? Suite opinions

Hi,

I%26#39;m looking for opinions on what is a better place to vacation. My kids are 11 and 9, they like the boardwalk thing. we have been to rehoboth before but not Dewey. I have been looking at the Atlantis Inn in Rehoboth and Atlantic Oceanside suites in Dewey. Any opinions?

Thanks,

Rehoboth or Dewey vacation? Suite opinions

Personally, I would not want to expose my kids (in that age group) to the debauchery that takes place as the sun goes down in Dewey Beach, plus, there is no boardwalk...I%26#39;d be looking at Rehoboth, Bethany, or Fenwick Island for a ';family friendly'; vacation.

geez, daddio!

we have a house in dewey between ';the split'; and silver lake...

our grandkids are that age, as are our nieces%26#39; kids, as are the kids of our next-door neighbor down there, and the grandkids of our neighbors across the street, and plenty others in the neighborhood!

they all have WONDERFUL ';family vacations'; in dewey. just don%26#39;t hang out by the bars on route one at night!

I have been researching on the Boston forum for a trip there in October but just thought I would check this one out since I live in Lewes. Dewey debauchery? Who even uses that word? Dewey%26#39;s bars are a college kid%26#39;s dream...that%26#39;s what summer is for. There are noise ordinances in place at night but around happy hour it can be quite lively. Unless you live in a hole underground and home-school your kids, I certainly don%26#39;t think the town will upset you. If you don%26#39;t want lively, go to Bethany or Fenwick. If you want to be close to the boardwalk, go to Rehoboth.

I have been online trying to decide between Rehoboth and Dewey myself for this July. I have a 20, 16, and a 14 yr old. I have heard the teenagers will love Dewey, but I haven%26#39;t found anything but kind of old fashioned motels. I don%26#39;t need the Ritz, but it seems Rehoboth has nicer places. Am I correct? Any recommedations? I would like to be as close to the beach as possible and with a pool (or sundeck) so I don%26#39;t have to deal with the sand and crowds on the beach. Also, my 14 yr old loves to skimboard and heard that the rule is no skimboarding until after 5pm, but that the lifeguards at Dewey let you do it earlier, but not at Rehoboth. Does anyone have any skimboarding advice for me?

Thanks

honestly, the two towns are so close together it hardly matters. i can%26#39;t help with hotels though.

as for skimboarding...well....in season, when the dewey beach is crowded, i%26#39;ve noticed that the lifeguards will stop the kids from skimboarding. but i%26#39;ve also seen them give them more leeway if they aren%26#39;t endangering life %26amp; limb of innocent bystanders.

but what the hay...after 5, when the lifeguards leave...there%26#39;s still plenty of daylight for skimboarders %26amp; dogwalkers, that%26#39;s when the fun starts!

Hey KCDC57....a little know fact is that Rehboth city limits end just after Prospect Street, and Dewey%26#39;s begin, well, somewhere further down. The area in between is not incorporated, but simply county land. So, your kids could skimboard in that little section. You can pretty much tell where it is because the lifeguards aren%26#39;t set up along there.

actually, that stretch of beach in front of silver lake is a private beach. i don%26#39;t know how much it%26#39;s enforced though.

Apparently, the owners only have rights to the ';mean high tide mark,'; meaning if you%26#39;re skimboarding, you%26#39;ll be fine. If you sit up near the dunes though, you%26#39;re on their property. But, as DOGMOM wrote, not much is enforced by them....that I%26#39;ve ever seen.
