Never Been To Rehoboth Beach, Is it Better than Ocean...

I have never been to Rehoboth Beach, only to Indian River Outlet to swim when I was younger.

My questions are=

a] Is it better than Ocean City????

b] Is it a little bit less expensive to stay than Ocean City????

c] Is it more family oriented than Ocean City???

d] How about hotels????

Any suggestions are appreciated, answers etc. I plan to visit this summer with my child who is a teen.

Thank you very much!!

Never Been To Rehoboth Beach, Is it Better than Ocean...

Hi Jaylyn:

I live about 35 miles from Rehoboth Beach and go there quite often. As to whether or not is it better than Ocean City, it depends on what you are looking for. Ocean City is much bigger, is much more ';exciting';, has a bigger boardwalk, etc. Rehoboth Beach is ';quaint';. There are a lot of interesting shops and artisans, lots of interesting little restaurants. Rehoboth is considered the ';gay'; capital of Delaware, and there are several gay friendly shops, cafes, hotels, etc. It is definitely less expensive than Ocean City, but again, we also have no state sales tax here in Delaware. About a five minute drive from the beaches are all the shopping outlets on Route 1.

If I were considering a vacation with a teenager, I would definitely choose Ocean City over Rehoboth. There is enough to do in Ocean City to keep you busy for days. Rehoboth is something basically than you can ';do'; in one long day, and when my 19 year old son came down from college for the weekend, and I took him here (to Rehoboth) he was bored to death. On our next visit we took him to Ocean City and he had an absolute blast, much busier, miniature golf, all sorts of rides, etc.

If you do plan a day trip to Rehoboth, which is only about an hour from Ocean City, be sure to stop and have lunch at the authentic Fish and Chips place just a few steps from the Ocean. The Thai restaurant across the street from the Fish and Chips place is pretty good, and right around the corner is a great sushi restaurant - of course if your teen is anything like mine, if it is not pizza they won%26#39;t eat it.

That last post is right on the mark...I%26#39;d also suggest staying in OC %26amp; doing a day trip to Rehoboth to check it out.

OC has a lot more accomodation choices, particularly of the hotel/condo variety (Rehoboth has way fewer of this type of accomodations but adds traditional beach cottages in the mix) and I think this could make OC less expensive.

As for amusements (of the teen variety) Rehoboth is no match for OC...only one park on the boardwalk %26amp; a sports complex compared to dozens of choices in OC. Ditto for boardwalk...OC%26#39;s makes Rehoboth%26#39;s seem pretty ';small-scale.';

Both resorts are family friendly but I would sum it up by saying Rehoboth is a more sophisticated clientele...they cater to the DC crowd %26amp; have lots of upscale restaurants, sidewalk cafes, etc.

Hope this helps.

';better'; is such a subjective thing...

i wouldn%26#39;t spend a week in OC during the season if my life depended on it.

i WOULD go down there for an evening for the entertainment. we have a place in dewey (residential street) and we like the quiet. we do our shopping %26amp; dining in rehoboth for the most part. it IS more sophisticated %26amp; quiet than OC is.

a teenager would probably enjoy OC more.

As a teen I stayed at both RB and OC. That being said, I think a teen would much prefer OC. The boardwalk is bigger, there are more arcades, mini-golf, shopping, etc.

I%26#39;m at Rehoboth Beach now, and I highly recommend it for the family. We found a great home to rent for under a thousand for the week. It was much, much cheaper than any hotel we looked at and we are blocks from the beach. Some things that I have noticed: very, very clean

friendly

pet friendly, kid friendly

families, teens, couples everywhere, but not crowded

lots and lots of unique shops, but also many name brand outlets

I am very impressed with the area.

rEHOBOTH IS JUST AWESOME. We have been going with our kids for 12 years. They love it!

OC is too busy!
