Parking meters and Jellyfish

Just got back from a trip to Lewes/Rehoboth. We had a great time. I hadn%26#39;t seen anyone else mention the parking meters in Rehoboth. We found a 2 hour meter--75 cents per hour. I don%26#39;t mind the cost but having to run back every 2 hours was a pain. We probably would have stayed longer but we got tired of running back to the meter. I don%26#39;t know if someone else knows of a better spot for parking.... Anyway bring quarters.

Also, we went to Cape Henlopen state park to swim. The water was FULL of jellyfish. Honestly I%26#39;ve never seen so many. I%26#39;m not usually afraid to swim with a few jellyfish, but this was something else. In the 3 hours we were there I probably saw only about 10 people go in the water, and then for only a short time, in and out.

RE: Meters: If you go a few blocks away from Rehoboth Ave. the meters are only .50/hr. %26amp; I think you can put up to 6hrs on them. Or you can buy a parking permit that allows you to park in unmetered spaces. DO NOT let them run out...Rehoboth meter readers are notoriously efficient!

RE: Jellyfish: They have been a problem up %26amp; down the Atlantic coast lately. Monday the 24th was one of the worst days EVER...the water looked like it was polka dotted. Since then, it has been much better, but if you look you will see a few %26amp; every now %26amp; then someone gets stung.

Good to know about the parking meters. I%26#39;ll look for the 50 cent meters when I return in August.

The parking permit is the best option. I always get one unless I am staying at a hotel. Meters are a pain.

Bay view motel or Hampton Inn?

The Hampton Inn is definitely NOT in Dewey Beach, and I%26#39;m not sure where the Bay View Motel is . . . can%26#39;t find it with google and it doesn%26#39;t ring a bell though we spend time in Dewey.

Do you have a URL or address for Bay View? Is it important to be in Dewey? Hampton Inn is about 4 miles north of the north end of Dewey.

I would recommend looking at calling the list of motels listed on www.beach-fun.com. Most motels in Dewey are the same, the only real difference being whether they are bayside or oceanside of Route 1. Since Dewey isn%26#39;t that big, don%26#39;t worry so much about location as nothing takes very long to walk.

Keep in mind that weekends are a lot more expensieve than the week (can be up to 2x more expensive) and often require a 2 night minimum staff.

Also, if you are going to Dewey for the nightlife, I strongly recommend staying at a motel in Dewey, not Rehoboth. This will make your transportation issues much easier (i.e. walking) if you decide to imbide in the libations offered at the fine entertainment and music establishments.

Hi - We just got back from a stay at the Atlantic View, which is right on the beach. Very neat and clean hotel with friendly staff. One of our friend%26#39;s son and his friends ( in their early 20%26#39;s) came down for a few days and loved the location. Many bars witin a few blocks. They never drove anywhere. This hotel was a grreat location. This is one of the only hotels right on the beach, but there are many on the main street, which is just a one block walk to the beach. Good luck!

Staying at the Holiday Inn Exp for a few days in August %26amp; I just realized that they don%26#39;t offer high-speed internet service. you can also take the easiest way which will take you just as long as 95 but a prettier ride with no trucks. you will pass through a few towns with lites but it really is not all that bad. me and my husband go this way all the time.just as you are going through baltimore you will look for signs south towards annapolis,(think this is 75?) stay on this until you see signs for 301/50 west. take this to 301 south towards richmond. stay on this for a while until you get to 17 south ( there is a rest stop called hornes, great food)you will go left and stay on 17 for a little over 2 hours, you will then go over the coleman bridge which is in glouster, once over the bridge you will see the colonial pkwy whih will take you right into williamsburg. i live here in yorktown . i could not find my map but if you are interested in this way drop me an email and i will confirm all the highway #s for you. good luck..

Another option would be the Cape May/Lewes ferry, Route 1 to 24W to 113S to 13S and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel to Virginia Beach. Real nice drive, although Route 1 could be crowded this time of year. Cape May and Lewes are worth a visit.

If you don%26#39;t do the ferry, 95 to Route 1S works, too. First stoplight is south of Dover. You could have 50 miles of heavy traffic midday on a weekend. And if there%26#39;s a race at Dover Downs, forget about early morning or late afternoon (try 11:00 to 2:00 to avoid race traffic).

We are traveling down Rt 13 thru DE and MD. We need to stay 1 night on the road either in the lower half of DE or in MD along route 13. Can anyone suggest a clean, safe hotel? The Hampton Inns are all filled up through that route. It seems that all the places we find are rated real low by former guests.

There%26#39;s a Best Western and a Holiday Inn Express in Seaford, DE. Haven%26#39;t stayed in either. Salisbury, MD is the next metro center. 8 or 9 motels there.

Either way would work. If you%26#39;re using the ferry you should have reservations.It is not cheap. Using that you would have to go down the Rt 1 corridor Thru Rehoboth and Dewey Beach.Coming from the bridge using 13 into 1 you should follow 113 at Milford. Go thru Millsboro and turn left on Rt 26 to Bethany.

The Breakers Hotel & Suites (?)

Our family has vacationed 3 summers at Rehoboth Beach, always staying at The Atlanic Sands... always a great experience! This year, because my children plan on bringing friends, we needed a larger room at an affordable price. We are unable to rent a house or condo because will not be staying Sat/Sat, Sun/Sun. We have a double suite(2bedrooms) reserved at THE BREAKERS. I am a little nervous because the brochure showes the rooms looking very small, and staying 2 blocks back from the ocean is new for us. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) w/The Breakers Hotel at Rehoboth Beach? We are vacationing right after the 4th of July.

The Breakers Hotel %26amp; Suites (?)

I stayed there last year. There were only 2 of us so our room seemed large enough. I don%26#39;t remember them being that small. It is a little way from the beach. We had a good stay, room was clean, staff friendly, free breakfast of cereal, muffins, bagels, etc. and juice or coffee. Did not use the pool, slightly green tint for me but others were in it. Quiet area of town, we sat on our balconey and watched the beach crowd walk back from the beach, everyone friendly. I have stayed in better places but I have also stayed in a lot worse. We didn%26#39;t spend a lot of time in the room anyway.

Parking passes

Parking passes are definitely the way to go when visiting Rehoboth for any amount of time. Meters are are hard to find and then you have to worry about feeding them all day long- and believe me the kiddie cops are more than happy to ticket expired meters!

Passes can be purchased by the day, month or season. When you drive into town, follow signs for ';Parking Permits'; and you will roadside stands with attendants and umbrells selling them. You can just drive up, buy it and go.

The only downside to permits is that the designated parking zones are not oceanblock, but really are very close regardless. If you can%26#39;t find metered you practically have to get a permit as all outlying parking areas are designated for permits anyway.

Thanks for the advice... when I ususally go to Rehoboth -- I go for a long day trip -- I get there REALLY early and have found my ';secret'; parking area .. I make a right off of Rehoboth Avenue on First Avenue and park on a side street a few blocks down... once I got so close to the boardwalk -- and it was a windy day -- my car got sandblasted! I%26#39;ve learned not to park so close now ;)

But you%26#39;re right... go any later than 10 or 11am and you%26#39;re hiking to the beach!

If you are going to rehoboth then parking passes are worthless and a total scam. The town has put parking meters everywhere ( used to be only 4 blocks had parking meters, the rest was available for parking permits, now it is just about every street ). Before even thinking about buying a parking permit you should find out if permit parking is remotely close to where you are staying ( probably is not ).

I%26#39;m not sure if this information is too late for you to use, but the seasickness braceletes are usually found in the pharmacy, behind the counter, so you%26#39;ll need to ask the pharmacist. I used them and they work really well, just make sure you use them according to instructions. If you miss the pressure point you have a good shot at getting sick. Pharmacies are located on route one or right in town Rehoboth (Rehoboth Pharmacy, Rehoboth Avenue, one block back from the beach- facing the ocean it%26#39;s on the left side of the avenue) Good luck!

Can anyone tell me where to stay in Lewes? We will be staying only 1 night and I would like a nice, safe, clean room. I am also looking for information on the whale watch cruises. We will be there the last week of July, is that a good time to do a whale watch cruise or will it be a waste of time? I%26#39;ve been living near Lewes for 12 years, haven%26#39;t heard about whale watch cruises, be interested to hear what you find. Driving to Chincoteague on a Sunday will take some time. Avoid DE Rte. 1S thru Dewey Beach, Fenwick Island and Ocean City at all costs. Suggest 24W to 113S. I%26#39;m guessing 3+ hours. Start early.

Lewes is a quaint little town, you can walk to everything, much less touristy than nearby Rehoboth Beach. Lots of shops, an antique mall and several very good restaurants (Try The Buttery or Striper Bites for high end, or Rose and Crown or Irish Eyes for more reasonable prices). And you can charter a boat; still not sure about the whales, although my wife reminded me that a dead one recently washed up on the Lewes beach. Zwaanandale (SP???) Museum is supposed to be OK, never been there. Three outlet malls on Route 1 nearby (go early, and pray it%26#39;s not raining). Keep in mind that a ';Lewes'; address doesn%26#39;t necessarily get you into Lewes itself: The hotels that have ';Lewes'; addresses aren%26#39;t in the town proper, but the B%26amp;B%26#39;s are.

Safety should not be an issue in Lewes.

You may want to try the Inn at Canal Square. It%26#39;s an excellent property,well kept on the canal. Not cheap. The Whale Watching Cruises go out from behind the LightHouse Restaurant on the Canal at Savanah Rd. There are several museums and tours.The Cannon Ball Museum on Front St can be very interesting they have volunteer guides some of which are very interesting. There is a small Motel called the Vesuvio Motel just before you cross the bridge going to Light House Restaurant. It%26#39;s a family operation clean,cheap ,not fancy. Just a hint ...I%26#39;ve laughed many times at the people going on the Dolphin Watching tour. For $4 you can take a car load into Cape Henlopen State Park and sit on the Beach and watch Dolphins all day.

Oh wow, don%26#39;t miss Lewes, it%26#39;s one of those little unexpected jewels one runs across in travels. We decided to stay there when our destination was ';coin beach'; (out around the inlet along the beach areas). We wanted to save some money and stay where there was less touristy congestion. Now we go back just to enjoy Lewes! We enjoyed our stay at the Beacon Motel on Savannah Road last time. Walking distance to town and bay beach, and fisherman%26#39;s wharf is practically on the doorstep.

Cape May is on the southernmost tip of NJ; a ferry runs between Lewes and Cape May.

I%26#39;ll be taking the Cape May Ferry across. The only reason I thought about staying in Lewes was to do the whale watch cruise. I might just leave on Sunday and drive straight through to Chincoteague.

You didn%26#39;t say which beach you are going to. We have beaches from Cape Henlopen to Fenwick at the Ocean City Md border.Rehoboth%26#39;s beach has just been rebuilt and is quite wide. The beach at Cape Henlopen had a bad winter and is quite narrow at low tide and almost gone at high tide. I understand Dewey Beach is in good shape also. Hope this helps!

Fenwick Island is a huge, lifeguarded beach with concession stands, showers, and will provide rented umbrellas if needed. The beach seems to go on forever even though everyone wants to pile up in the concession stand area at the ocean. Bethany Beach is a family oriented beach with many conveniences of shops, restaurants, and a public bathroom with a small boardwalk setting. Rehoboth Beach has just been replenished from erosion and has increased in size dramatically. It has a boardwalk with many shops, restaurants, and rides/games for the kids. There are also plenty of drinking establishments for the adults and can be fun people watching on the main avenue. Cape Henlopen in Lewis is actually a very large state park with concession stands, pavillions, showers, and a lot of history and nature observation areas, but, due to the piping plovers (sand birds) that nest there every year, you are limited where you can go on the beach areas which is ashame because the best beachcombing area is the same place the plovers decided to build their nest each year...otherwise you would be amazed at all the different shells and sea creatures you can spot on the beach at lowtide in this particular area. This use to be my favorite spot but, now I prefer Fenwick Island (the beach is very clean, large, and you can get away from the crowd). Dewey Beach is for the teenagers and ';hungover if sober college crowd';. Most of the kids that go to Dewey are looking for parties or trying to start one. Expect a lot of police in town and spot checks there (mostly for underage drinking). I don%26#39;t know what your looking for but, I am sure you will be able to find a beach that suits your needs. Have fun and don%26#39;t forget the sunscreen!

I have stayed here and will once again this coming season for a few days. Nothing special to write home about -- they really need to take the word ';resort'; off of the title. It%26#39;s an Econo Lodge for heaven%26#39;s sake.

It%26#39;s right on Route 1 and near all the shopping. A Cracker Barrel restaurant is walking distance to the hotel.

It does the job of tourist accomodations near the beach resorts of DE.

Thanks for the info on the Econo Lodge. I was kinda wandering about the ';RESORT'; part. Most places that say they are resorts offer a restaurant/bar on premises. So, i will keep all of this in mind.

The Cracker Barrel Restaurant is on the lot of this hotel. Probably one of the more economical hotels on the Route 1 corridor in the DE Beach area.

The Holiday Inn Express in Rehoboth is the best deal of any, by far! It%26#39;s less than 1 mile from the beach, and there is a shuttle that takes you to and from the beach (drops you literally right at the Ocean/Boardwalk!) for a nominal fee. They have a great continantal breakfast and THE best service of any hotel I%26#39;ve stayed at in either Rehoboth or Lewes.

Just down the road from the Motel is a park and ride lot that will take you to the beach. They charge by the car not person. With no traffic you could drive to the beach in 5 minutes. However on a July weekend closer to 15 minutes. Then you have to find a parking place . If you do drive in keep your meter paid up and watch the 25MPH speed limit. Be aware of bycyclists. Many of the summer workers use bikes and are not careful.One girl was killed earlier this year and a young man recieved serius head wounds yesterday in a hit and run accident. They just renewed the beacg and it%26#39;s great. Enjoy your stay!!

Brighton Suites is one block from the beach and boardwalk at First and Wilmington. There are all kinds of restaurants within wallking distance . PlayLand on the boardwalk is great for smaller kis and reasonably priced. It is not a new building. It does appear to be well kept and I have never heard a negative comment about it.

We leave tomorrow for 3 nights at Brighton. I booked based high ranking and desire for a suite at reasonable price. I%26#39;ll post a trip report when we return.

We were content with Brighton Suites. The location is great. . . a block from the beach and Rehoboth Ave. The suite was large and comfortable with two tvs %26amp; DVD players. The pool is very small, indoors on the 3rd floor. Nice rooftop sundeck. Maid service was quick and efficient. They brought fresh towels 2 times a day. Breakfast in the cafe was good, too. It is not a brand new hotel and the carpeting and bathroom showed signs of wear but not bad for the price.

Sand Dunes at Rehoboth

Just visited Rehoboth yesterday (go many times in a year, day trip -- sometimes long-weekends) -- and noticed the work they are doing with adding sand (covering the ';under the boardwalk';) and having a ramp-like path to the boardwalk rather than steps.

Interesting, I guess they are building sand dunes. It%26#39;ll be interesting to see the end-result.

I%26#39;ve been in Rehoboth three times this summer as I visit family. It is very interesting to watch the good progress being made on the beach replenishment project.

The band shell will be redesigned and its direction will be reversed as well, but the bulk of the work is to serve and protect the main attraction of Rehoboth ... the beach and boardwalk ... in the never-ending give and take of the mighty Atlantic.

The only ';down side'; is the coarser texture of the sand displaced by the dredge to the beach.

These man-made dunes are low, but wide. The engineered and sacrificial ';dunes'; will be planted with dunegrasses, and will be integral to protect the boardwalk and its properties from the scrubbing action of the waves and tides of the numerous severe Nor%26#39;easters and tropical storms, and perhaps from a hurricane.

They are hardly difficult to traverse. There will be handicapped accessible spots as well. It%26#39;s a good thing to keep you coming back year after year.

Just passed a sign yesterday $110 a bushel .There is a Crab Barn on Rt 1 South bound and a place I believe called Suzie%26#39;s out by Lewes also on southbound Rt 1. The Crab Barn on Long Neck road also has bands and dancing. Go out Rt 24 (McDonalds) and turn left on Long Neck Rd (Food Lion Shopping Center on one side Shell Station on the other.) Crab Barn maybe 2 miles on right just past Grotto Pizza.

I live near The Crab barn, try to avoid it. Someone broke into my daughter%26#39;s car and stole her stereo when she was there a couple of years ago.

Bahama Mama%26#39;s Crabs were good last year but, a bit pricey I thought. There is one in Fenwick Island and one in Ocean City. The Fenwick Island one is primarily a take out place and you will need to call in advance for your order if you want big, fat, crabs...they sell out fast!! Haven%26#39;t tried them this year because we have been catching our own. Good year for crabs!

We are staying at a house very close to JavaBeach and we are picking up someone%26#39;s Wi-Fi.

Adams Oceanfront Motel, Dewey Beach

I made a reservation at this motel for our family trip to the beach. I cannot find any traveler%26#39;s comments/reviews about this particular motel. I have never stayed there, but have stayed near there and walked by it a number of times.

From the outside it looks nice and is in a great spot right on the ocean (you can%26#39;t get any closer to the beach).

My guess is that it is a typical beach motel. Not very fancy, but clean and more than adequate for a weekend or week vacation.

My wife and I looked at it for last summer, but they did not have availability.

I agree Beached_Boy, that is a very good point. However, I see an increasing number of families and children in Dewey every year as the city cracks down on group houses. I still enjoy going out there, but definitily don%26#39;t mind having it be a better family atmosphere either.

Well, I have not been there for a few years (probably more like 10). We wanted to stay away from Rehoboth - too busy and populated. I recall it being more family-based and quiet. Anyway, we didn%26#39;t want to be in the midst of the ';boardwalk'; atmosphere. I%26#39;m more interested about what the beach is like.....not so much the partying. We would find that no matter where we go. Do you have any other info you could share? What about restaurants? Ages of my kids are 10-9-5-4

Sorry for not getting back sooner Maddy, but I just returned from your neck of the woods from a weekend visiting my family.

The beach area in Dewey is very good. It isn%26#39;t as wide as the beaches around Atlantic City, but wide enough that people are not on top of each other. You will have easy access to the beach from Adam%26#39;s. The beach has lifeguards until 5 pm (i think starting at 9 am).

I think your family will have a very good time. Just read the posted rules about ball playing etc... (they often don%26#39;t allow it, but it can depend on the lifeguard and how crowded it is) so you don%26#39;t get scolded by the guards.

As for restaurants, Dewey has all of your typical beach foods. For Pizza I prefer Mama Maria%26#39;s over Grottos, for breakfast make sure you go to Sunrise (down near where Rte 1 enters Dewey from Rehobath, there pancakes are great!). For sit down restaurants, I would recommend going into Rehobath, as I have not eaten in one in Dewey that I liked.

I have to agree with Beach Boy about Dewey Beach not being a town for kids of any age. When we were down at our beach house last week, we observed a lot of large, rowdy, inebriated, young people that were stumblin and standin around in the streets around the dinner hour. At times, the police would be around them checking their id for underage drinking. The police are not going to send these kids home unless they are causing serious trouble or are underage and drinking. Dewey Beach caters to the college crowd and depends on the revenue from them. That is why the clubs there bring in the bands that appeal to them. The family oriented beaches are Bethany Beach, Cape Henlopen, Rehoboth, and Fenwick Island.

We have stayed there for three years now and find the place great. Small, friendly, close to the beach and within walking distance of Grotto%26#39;s Pizza (our favorite). Will be down again week of July 17. Hope you have fun.

This thread has been going on for a while. If you haven%26#39;t been there yet. If you%26#39;re not pleased with the crowd on the beach drive about a mile or 2 south on route 1 to the Towers Road Beach at the state park. For your fee you would have access to the bay beach or the Ocean,parking,concession stand and bath house. I agree with the poster who sugested leaving Dewey for dinner. Howevr I would choose to eat on Route 1 north of town.There are good Restaurants in Rehoboth but if you%26#39;re not staying in town parking is rough. Would definitely reccomend the Road House.(Turn right 1 traffic light north of rt 24,Mc Donalds) Foods great and they are kid friendly. The Mexican restaurant acroos the parking lot from them is also very good and makes great Margaritas. Also the Rusty Rudder DECK has Caribian band starting at 4Pm and decent burgers and fries. Nice view relaxed atmosphere.

I cannot comment much on the hotel, but it is in a great spot at the southern end of Dewey Beach. The hotel itself is on the bayside of Dewey Beach right near the Rusty Rudder and Ruddertown. On the bayside at Ruddertown there is a place to rent water sports stuff (parasailing etc...) and you are a block (across Route 1) from the beach.

At night, you will find that there are a lot of people out and about going to hear live music at the Rusty Rudder, the Bottle and Cork, and the Starboard. You and your family should not be bothered by these folks as very few will venture down as far as your hotel.

I hope you enjoy your trip! We have always loved Dewey and are going back in 7 Days for Vacation!

Suggest you try the Dewey Beach Club just south of Rudder: Good food at reasonable prices; burgers, (broiled) crab cakes and bisque can%26#39;t be beat. If you want high end, try Twin Seas across the street - unassuming exterior, but they%26#39;ll put some good food on you.

It%26#39;s fine . You should be real happy. You can park in their lot and walk to everything. Just a suggestion in going to the beach go out the back entrance of the parking lot and down Wilmington Ave to the beach . It will save a lot of congestion.

Drove, put quarters in, kind of disconnected from it all. Staying on the ';main drag'; is great -we%26#39;re parking, living %26amp; walking! Thanks for the ';ok'; stamp.

He%26#39;s recovering from his first hip replacement surgery, and will be getting the 2nd one in early September, and just now feels well enough for a weekend getaway. We will be bringing our 9-month-old yorkipoo with us. Frankly, all of us have been through HELL this past year and really need a small break!

We would like to be able to take Billy to the beach, or at least need a place to let him run near the hotel. We are looking for close beach access within walking distance (if possible). Proximity to good restaurants would also be nice. We are NOT looking for a big party, just a nice place to relax and unwind. Rooms need to be room and clean, but not fancy. Which Delaware beach hotel/motel would suit us best? Any suggestions for entertainment are also welcome.

I wouldn%26#39;t consider Dewey to be a good ';family oriented beach'; unless you don%26#39;t mind the partying college/late teens crowd (actually the partying starts up after the hangover wears off around the dinner hour on through the night). I guess the beach might be ok during the day but, the town gets mobbed with the younger set lining up at the restaurants and bars throughout the evening. Of course your child is young enough not to ask questions about certain behaviors or copy them yet (young teens might be another story...). Bethany, Rehoboth, Lewes, and Fenwick Island are more family oriented beaches/towns. They also have great facilities available like bathrooms or showers. Good luck.

Delaware is very family friendly.Lewes or Rehoboth would be great . A 2 y.o. could enjoy the kiddie rides at Playland and they are cheap. Lewes has a beach on the Bay which would be great for a child your age.Bethany is nice but had a lot of rules. Hi everyone... was at Rehoboth yesterday. I understand this is part of the dredging that%26#39;s going on to rebuild the beach and build the sand dunes at Rehoboth -- but OUCH OUCH OUCH! I never ever had to wear reef shoes while going to the beach there and yesterday I wish I had them. I went to Ryan%26#39;s Junk and Jems to purchase a pair; but then I hesitated. I didn%26#39;t like the current either and I pictured myself getting slammed into those little sharp shells and rocks if a wave hit me.

I picked up a copy of the Cape Gazette on the way home last night and right there on page one was an article about this same situation. The lifeguards actually didn%26#39;t recommend people body boarding and the injuries have gone up this year.

Wish I had read this on the way DOWN.... it was too hot to NOT go in the water yesterday -- but I went just to splash some on me and go back to the towel. I have a few good beach weekends left in the summer ... I may have to go elsewhere... been going to Rehoboth for as long as I can remember. It%26#39;s just not safe (especially for a friend of mine that%26#39;s diabetic and shouldn%26#39;t get cuts, etc.)

They say that the beach will be back to normal for next year; I certainly hope so!

This is due to the work they did on the beaches. Either Cape Henlopen State Park. Towers Road or Indian River State Park would be good alternatives. They offer good beaches, dressing rooms , parking, and concession stands .

Yep, that%26#39;s right. I recently walked Cape Henlopen%26#39;s ocean beach from the point to almost Gordon%26#39;s Pond and most of it had no shells whatsoever. Unless you love crowded beaches, hunting elusive parking spaces and plugging meters, this is always a better alternative than Rehoboth for hitting the beach. BUT, the daily entrance fee has just gone up to $8 for non residents.

As for the rip currents, yes, they were VERY bad last week, due mosty to that TS that just made its way up the Atlantic. That is not usually a problem, but for first timers, you should know that DE waves often break much closer to the shore than elsewhere. And beware; the tide comes in quickly %26amp; engulfs many a dozing sunbather!

That%26#39;s $8 per car load. Hugh Parking lot right at the beach. Visitors center with a small aquarium . They%26#39;ve remodeled one of the old World War 2 towers and it%26#39;s open to the public gives great view. For those who care to there are also hiking and bike riding trails.

Thanks for the tips -- never went to Cape Henlopen -- but I may try that in a few weeks.

The meter situation has gotten worse over the years; sure it looks nice now when you go up and down Rehoboth Avenue -- but back in the day; at least you can park your car and have 12 hour meters. Trick to it is; finding the side streets that still have those meters... AND... getting there EARLY to snag one of em :) Oh and they%26#39;re still a quarter for 1/2 hour.

The problem with that too, is having quarters with you. Sure there%26#39;s change machines, but it%26#39;s a pain. I%26#39;ve lived with that for years now.

You could buy a parking pass and park in the unmetered areas. They sell them daily or seasonal

Grotto is the only place for pizza, go to the original near boardwalk on the south side of Rehoboth avenue. Try Back Porch or Blue Moon for seafood and american downtown (both pricey), and if you want ethnic, try Adriatico for italian, Tiajuana Taxi for mexican or Seaside Thai (all reasonable and within walking distance). Have you tried Royal Treat (for breakfast) or Summer House (for lunch)? Any other breakfast spots you%26#39;ve tried and been happy with?

Wife knows some people who worked at Royal Treat, says it%26#39;s a good one. Haven%26#39;t eaten at Summer House in years. As for seafood:

1. THE place is Bigfish Grille, but you have to drive there (on the ';Forgotten Mile';, Route 1 between the Park and Ride and Dewey Beach). Go early if you go. Little hard accoustically, but really good seafood.

2. Jakes at 1st %26amp; Baltimore is another good one.

3. Both $$$.

If you want something different, Sydnie%26#39;s (spell???) has jazz and good food.

Breakfast: The Crystal will be a little walk, near the drawbridge going into town, before the new traffic circle (good luck with that if you haven%26#39;t done one before). PLENTY of breakfast at reasonable prices. Your kids may not be able to eat a short stack. One funny thing - they don%26#39;t permit you to split an order with another person (!!!), so everyone gets to stuff themselves.

No concerns. I don%26#39;t know what I was thinking. The plushest restaurant we went to was Grotto%26#39;s. Choice places were Dunkin%26#39; Donuts, Thrashers Fries, Dippin%26#39; Dots, and, oh we did go to Retro Cafe (think that was the name) on Wilmington, which we enjoyed. The food was very good for the price. They served both breakfast %26amp; lunch (no early risers in my group). Maybe in a few years I%26#39;ll bring up the subject again. Ha...point taken, Beached Boy. The Moon, aside from other issues, could have been omitted from the suggestion list because she asked for ';reasonable'; good food, as in not in the highest percentile of the costliest Rehoboth eateries (of which the Blue Moon is just one of many).

I just got back from vacation and wasn%26#39;t monitoring the internet when that was first posted . Knowing where she was staying how about Arena%26#39;a, Iguana Grill , The Nickoboli place on First St next to the Hot Wing place and there is a great little take out place in the second block of Baltimore Ave with some good unusaul seafood sandwiches and platters.

Also, the cafe at the Henlopen Hotel along the boardwalk has the BEST apple pie al a mode I%26#39;ve ever had- and the burgers were good there too.

There are plenty of courts at Cape Henlopen High School, on your left driving towards Lewes. Also a few at the beach in the parking lot going towards Henlopen Acres %26amp; Gordon%26#39;s Pond.

I use to work the parking at Dover Downs, but it%26#39;s been awhile...basically there%26#39;s really no GREAT place to park and you gotta park where they tell you...and DO Not park on the highway!!! You%26#39;ll be towed (yes some do it). Just go in the main gate and follow the people that are directing you. If it%26#39;s the same crew I worked with, they%26#39;re good at what they do.

The parking is horrible. Well, not horrible - it%26#39;s just that it%26#39;s hundreds of thousands of people…and not enough to accommodate everyone. We learned two years ago a trick….**Coming from Jersey** There is a shuttle bus from the Christiana Mall in Delaware, here is the website: www.dartfirststate.com/information/race/ You meet up with the shuttle in the parking lot at 7:00 a.m., where you buy a $7 roundtrip ticket. The shuttle takes you directly to the Petty Grand Stand and picks you up after the race. The buses have special privileges…not waiting in traffic, etc. This is truly the best way to get down there…unless you%26#39;re up for 4 hours of sitting in traffic, then walking another hour to the track!! What we%26#39;ve done is get a hotel in the Christiana Mall area, zip to the shuttle in the a.m. and it%26#39;s smooth sailing. The only trick, on the return, the shuttle stops at the Blue Hen shopping center first, where you connect onto a bus to go back to Christiana. It%26#39;s SO well worth it; you wouldn%26#39;t believe it. And you have a better chance of getting a hotel in that area near the shuttle. Though, I%26#39;ve booked my rooms a year or 1/2 year in advance. If you have more questions, don%26#39;t hesitate to get me at martiniilover@aol.com!!!! I recommend going to www.beach-fun.com and clicking on their accomodations section. In that section they list all of the realtors in that part of Delaware. Almost all of them also have rentals. We used Crowley and Associates this past summer and had a place on the ocean in Dewey Beach.

We travel to the area several times a year and always visit either Longwood Gardens or the Winterthur Museum. (15 minutes from each other)

I like to stay at the Hilton in Delaware. It%26#39;s a nice drive from the Brandywine Valley area...but still close to major shopping and restaurants. They have special pacakges that include ticket to both places - or you can just buy tickets yourself from the Front Desk. (Saves you $3 per ticket plus tax per person vs. paying at the door at Longwood)

The Terrace Restaurant inside Longwood isn%26#39;t worth your time. Instead stop at either Buckley%26#39;s or Pizza by Elizabeth%26#39;s (gourment pizza, cool martini%26#39;s, salds and good desserts...where the upper crust go instead of McDonalds) - both on Rt. 52 and close to Longwood.

If you have to go on a Friday-Saturday...be ready for long lines at night carving their way through the inside of the Conservatory. It is so crowded you%26#39;ll crawl along at a snails pace. Avoid this by going in the early afternoon (2-3pm) and take your time, leaving the indoor facilitys to stroll the AMAZINGLY lit outdoor grounds on your way out...just as it gets dark..and avoid a lot of the crowds this way.

If you are into Thanksgiving buffets, I heard that the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach has a nice Thanksgiving buffet. I have never done it but, I have heard others that enjoyed it very much. You probably will need to make reservations. Of course since you stated that you aren%26#39;t on a budget, you might try something more upscale. Reservations are recommended for all restaurants on Thanksgiving day though.

You might consider a condo, depending on how many people in your party. We own one in a building that%26#39;s three lots back from the ocean in Dewey Beach. We don%26#39;t rent ours after Labor Day, but our next-door neighbor does. Don%26#39;t know the rate, but I suspect it%26#39;s at least competitive with Inn on Canal Square . . . and I guarantee the view is WAY more spectacular, not to mention the SPACE! 4-BR, 4Bath, LR, DR, kitchen. Downside is you have to bring your own linens . . . but believe me the difference in view would be worth it! (And I think there%26#39;s a rental place that would actually provide that stuff if you don%26#39;t want to be bothered.)

I know our neighbor%26#39;s rental agent is Coldwell Banker on Route 1 in Rehoboth. The address of the condo would be 12 Houston St. Unit A. (We%26#39;re B -- maybe we%26#39;ll see you there! We usually come down for the weekend after.)

We%26#39;ve never done Thanksgiving at the beach, but there are SO many good restaurants! I%26#39;d suggest contacting Venus on the Half Shell in Dewey (fabulous gourmet food/view/decor); Chez La Mer (traditional French, outstanding); Nage (terrible location, but really great upscale decor and food); Fish On! (always on the ';best of'; restaurant lists).

Of these, I%26#39;d recommend Blue Moon, Buttery, Cultured Pearl, Sydney%26#39;s. Most of the others are certainly well-recommended, we just haven%26#39;t been there.

Happy Thanksgiving from Delmarva. As other%26#39;s have said get reservations but I%26#39;d like to add further....just call to be sure places are open! Alot of the area closes down after Labor Day. Which is really when all us local%26#39;s go to the beach. Rusty Rudder has a fabulous ';upscale'; All-you-can-eat Seafood Buffet (usually on Friday nights) which is very good. Not like other buffet%26#39;s where the food all tastes the same. We go every Decemeber to The Buttery for dinner. Haven%26#39;t gotten a bad item yet! Also, you couldn%26#39;t pay me to hit the outlets at this time of year, but if you are brave and like people....it is tax free. Don%26#39;t go expecting great values, just variety. Have a good one.

I%26#39;d expect fairly dry conditions with high temperatures in the 55-60F range and lows about 10 degrees cooler. Jacket, not quite coat weather.

Hotels: The Boardwalk Plaza is probably one of the nicest in town and on the beach. You%26#39;ll pay a good deal less as you get further away from the beach and a lot less at the budget hotels on the highway (but closer to the outlet stores). Check out the hotels link here on TripAdvisor

Checking www.rehoboth.com I see the 13th thru 16th is our annual Jazz Festival. That%26#39;s an major event, draws a lot of people. Weather is usually great that time of year. With the pound/dollar as they are, your wife can go crazy at the outlets without hurting the budget too badly - tax-free, too!

Brighton Suites is great for familes. It will be booked Greyhound weekend, around the 8th this year. Oct. weather can be perfect, even to go on the beach. There is the Jolly Trolley that can take your wife to the outlets. Book something soon!

I would stay at the Admiral motel or the Atlantic Sands as they are right on the boardwalk and all restaurants and small shops are within easy walking distance. It will definitely be cold and windy at night on the beach. We have needed heavy sweatshirts many a summer night there. The shopping is great if you like outlets.

A condo is a great idea if you have kids, at this time of year you should get a good price on an oceanfront place. There are plenty of places to stay on the highway, but the little town of Rehoboth Beach is charming with lots of little shops and restaurants and you don%26#39;t want to have to get into a car to go to the beach. Our favorite condo is the Edgewater, next to the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel (which is very nice but expensive and seems to cater mainly to seniors). There are lots of restaurants in Rehoboth but some are open only on weekends now that it is the off-season. I was there this weekend and there was a restaurant on Wilmington Ave in a charming old house just a block or two from the boardwalk that had a line out the door for breakfast--(always a good sign), but because the weather was so nice we decided to head straight for the beach and didn%26#39;t try it. There are lots of restaurants on Wilmington and the other side streets that are just a couple of blocks from the boardwalk. We also like Nicola%26#39;s pizza (about half the price of the ubiquitous Grotto Pizza). Have fun! It is a great place to relax.

THE breakfast place is the ';Crystal';, just past the drawbridge on the right as you come into town. BIG portions, but for some reason they won%26#39;t let you share. Weather next week is low 70%26#39;s/low 50%26#39;s - real sleeping weather. Enjoy!

My family has vacationed at Sea Colony for many years. I think your family would really enjoy it. All the units are rated Platinum (the best); Gold, Silver, and Bronze. We usually rent either a Silver or Gold unit and have always found them very comfortable. You can rent one-bedroom units, two bedroom units, two bedrooms and a den (usually has a pull-out sofa) or two bedrooms, den and loft area (these are only on the 9th floor and there are no many of these that rent). There are 9 buildings that each have 9 floors and are located directly on the ocean. All units have balconies. All units have fully equipped kitchens which are really nice with young children. Sea Colony is located in Bethany Beach and you can walk from Sea Colony into the town. The town has a small boardwalk and several restaurants. In addition to the beach, every two buildings share a pool and they also have kiddie pools for the younger kids. There is a small store on the premises that also has donuts/bagels, etc. in the morning, lunch, and ice cream. You can also drive to Ocean City, Maryland, Rehoboth Beach, DE, Dewey Beach, DE, Lewes, DE. There are numerous outlets in Rehoboth. I really think your family will enjoy the area. Basically we%26#39;re trying to get our kids to all 50 states and we%26#39;re seeing if we can sneak in Delaware after a trip to DC. Any ideas on the best route to travel over from Springfield, VA (do you have to go all the way to the north or is there a bridge somewhere?) and what would a person do with one day in Delaware that would give them a feel for the state?

You can cross the Chesapeake Bay on the Bay Bridge on Rt 301 east of DC. That puts you about an hour west of Rehoboth Beach. As a native Delawarean even I don%26#39;t know that much about SW Delaware, but to get a good feel for the state I would take the time to drive the hour to Rehoboth Beach. Many things will be open at that time of year and you%26#39;ll be able to see the beach and enjoy the shops and boardwalk. Rehoboth has a pretty good website - rehoboth.com. Lots of Delaware flavor there!

Delaware flavor in Rehoboth? Well, yeah, maybe way back when I was a kid, but not now. IMHO, better to drive into Dover (the capital) and see some of the historic areas, then head east to Bombay Hook preserve for a look at what Delaware once was.

We%26#39;ll be in Bethany Beach this summer and are wondering if there is any such thing as nightly oceanfront rentals, preferably in a condo/apartment type setting? We%26#39;re looking for 3 nights during the week.

There are multiple oceanfront accommodations in Bethany. The bigger problem might be finding something that is nightly. If you are looking for a large place, oceanfront with pool and other community facilities (fitness club, indoor pool, tennis courts, etc.) I would suggest trying the Sea Colony Towers. Most of the Sea Colony Resort rents through Resort Quest:

There are two motel apartment type places oceanfront, the Bethany Arms and the Blue Surf. Both have websites I believe. If you are looking for a beautiful old bed and breakfast there is the Addy Sea. Try to get hooked up with a group. There are several aptartments in town which cater to students. A girl from Russia who worked for us stayed on First St last year . Others were on Baltimore Ave. Rents are VERY expensive and would be too much for just you and your friend. Try to get in town. Riding bikes on Rt1 is dangerous. A few students are killed each year doing this. Good Luck

Janegg - What kind of work are you looking for? Having grown up in that area and still having family in the area, I can tell you that there are plenty of jobs in the upscale restuarants where you can really clean up in tips. If food service is not your thing,then Rehoboth is also known to be one of the largest outlet areas in the country. If you%26#39;re not into retail, then it would really depend on what you are looking for. Jobs other than seasonal ones are hard even for the locals to find back there.

BoardWalk Plaza is a first class property on the boardwalk.The hotel and it%26#39;s reastaurant (Victoria%26#39;s) are not cheap ,but if you want first class an excellent choice.

Don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve already visited or not but we just stayed in the Boardwalk Plaza this past weekend. I thought it was nice for the good price that we booked. We liked that the floor that we were on was adults only, they have a hot tub (outside) on the roof that was adults only and they close the pool to children after 8pm. This is nice if you%26#39;re going as a couple. I honestly don%26#39;t know that I would have found it worth it if we had paid the seasonal rates. We%26#39;ve stayed in nicer places for less money. The problem is, there aren%26#39;t any ';resort'; options in Rehoboth. The entire Rehoboth Beach area is very gay friendly. Hope this helps

We travel to Rehoboth a good bit and we like the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel. Their Sunday brunch is fantastic. Although their rates a bit high all the staff is very helpful and make the stay worth it. The atmosphere is great and the view to the beach is fantastic.

I think BPH is a little better/more upscale than your typical beach motel, although I am extremely picky about hotels (Ritz Carlton is typically about as low as I go on the luxury ladder)so you may take that into consideration when evaluating my response. That being said, the only truly luxury property in Rehoboth is the Bellmoor. Very, very nice - I would equate it%26#39;s nicer rooms with a sort of beach-i-fied Ritz Carlton, and it%26#39;s lesser rooms, called garden rooms, are still a thousand times nicer than a typical beach motel. For god%26#39;s sake don%26#39;t eat at the BPH. Also true - all Rehoboth is gay friendly. I think it%26#39;s a really nice example of how the gay community has merged with a truly old fashioned, traditional small town beach community. That%26#39;s why we keep going back. You get traditional beach atmosphere such as the boardwalk, arcade, tacky t-shirt shops, excellent junk food options, etc. with the added benefit of an outstanding restaurant and boutique shopping scene. And best of all, you can park and not drive for 3 days - it%26#39;s like crossing Mayberry with . . . well, it%26#39;s Gayberry!

Karray - I grew up not far from Rehoboth and spent many summers there as a kid. For me, the allure today is that not much has changed on the boardwalk. I would also like to point out that it is an authentic boardwalk, which I love. I%26#39;m not sure how old your children are, but there is an arcade with kiddie rides, putt-putt, open area game rooms, lots of shopping, etc. Rehoboth also has one of the largest outlet areas. I seriously doubt that you will find a ocean front hotel room in a decent hotel for $200.00 pet night. There aren%26#39;t that many ocean front hotels for one thing. Most of the hotels are out on Route 1 which is the main thoroughfare into Rehoboth. You may have some luck with some of these. To me, the beach looks a lot better than it used to. For a while, there didn%26#39;t seem to be much beach because of erosion. They have really done some replenishment work though and I think the beach looks great. My husband and I actually decided (for the first time since I moved away) to actually book a condo and spend a weeks vacation in Rehoboth this June. We are taking our grown daughter and her husband. We are all really looking forward to it.

I did go back to look at the hotel list to see which ones I remember being on the beach or perhaps a block(?) away. The main ones are the Bellmoor, the Boardwalk Plaza, The Admiral, Atlantic Sands and the Henlopen. These places have websites and some of them are on expedia.com. I looked at a couple and pulled weekly rates (not weekend) for the 3rd week of June. A couple of them did have rates under $200.00. Please know that some of these places are considered 1 and 2 star hotels. I don%26#39;t know what they are like other than the Boardwalk Plaza, which is considered the 2nd best hotel (to the Bellmoor). I liked it well enough. I don%26#39;t think I liked it well enough to pay the rates that they want for high season.

Parking question

I asked this question within another post, so chances are, so folks who might have an answer may not see it. Anyway, we are renting a condo on the beach that only allows 1 parking space. There are 2 couples that are going to be staying in this condo and we are coming from completely different directions so we both need our vehicles. I was wondering if anyone knew of any long term secured parking options available in the area for us to put one of our cars.

We%26#39;re renting a house in Rehoboth this summer which comes with on street parking permits. My guess is that you can purchase an on street parking permit for the duration of your stay and park in an unmetered spot near your rental. Check the town website, I%26#39;m sure they would have info.

Bound, LMK if Grotto Pizza is still there, and the saltwater taffy place on the opposite corner by the boardwalk, and the frozen custard place next door. And the B%26amp;C in Dewey. (I spent WAY too much time there in my youth.) I learned to sail at Rehobeth Bay Sailing Association on the bay. It%26#39;s been SO long since I%26#39;ve been down there. Maybe next time I go to visit my mother in Dover. I love the beaches in winter.

Did you ever go to Coin Beach? It was three beaches north of the ranger station. I still have a couple of 18%26#39;th century coins from there.

Ever been to Island Field site in South Bowers? I used to belong to the archaeology club and was a guide there for a while. Did some work on the excavation at Argo%26#39;s Corner, too, when they were putting in the bypass. We didn%26#39;t find much, though.

I need to get back to Bombay Hook, too.

PZP - just sent you an email. I go back to Rehoboth now and again for day and weekend trips. I was just back there for a weekend to check out the condo situation in the middle of January. Grotto%26#39;s is definitely still there. In fact they have opened several, not only in just the Rehoboth area, but in areas like Seaford as well. There has been talk for years now about putting one in Milford, but hasn%26#39;t happened yet. Dollies is also still there. I%26#39;m not much of a taffy person, but I love the carmel popcorn. I think I saw the custard place but not 100% sure. They are doing major renovations on the road on main street right there by the boardwalk. They have torn down the fountain area and are putting something in its%26#39; place but you can%26#39;t really tell what. Is supposed to be done (hopefully) by Memorial Day. As for crabs, unfortunately I can%26#39;t eat shell fish. I was laughing when I was back there though because all of the menus at all of the restaurants had almost nothing but crab dishes. I would have never thought of putting chicken with crab. I felt like I had walked into a Forrest Gump spoof. I can%26#39;t remember what the B%26amp;C is. I%26#39;ve never heard of Coin Beach (believe it or not). I have been to South Bowers as a kid. Went there on a school fieldtrip. I think I heard something about where they closed that down? Now here%26#39;s one for you. Going towards Argos corner (before the bypass) do you remember a little log cabin looking house that sat of the left next to a boat place (Taylor Marine)? My aunt lived in that log cabin and I spent a couple of weeks in the summer with her as a kid. Last, but not least.....scraple.....you can not possibly know how much cr*p I catch about scraple. My husband is from the south (chitlin country - some nerve) and loves reading the package ingredients of scrapple. So much so that I%26#39;ve not been able to eat it in years.

we have a place in north dewey %26amp; sure, grotto %26amp; dolle%26#39;s %26amp; the frozen custard are still there. the main street renovations seem to have been going on FOREVER, what a pain! i am really missing it, we usually go down for christmas but couldn%26#39;t this year because my husband had a ';heart procedure'; dec. 19.

the bottle %26amp; cork had some renovations done, but it%26#39;s certainly still alive %26amp; well. the beach was horrible last summer after the replenishment...sudden drop off %26amp; waves crashing right on the sand....but they said the winter weather should get it back to a safe level again.

p.s. i LOVE scrapple! i like what i call a ';borderline breakfast';...scrapple %26amp; grits :D

For a quiet family vacation Bethany is your place. We go every year and stay at the Sea Colony resort. They have a private beach well guarded, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor tennis, a liitle deli/market and a place to rent movies right on site. There are kids programs in season so you can get a break for a few hours during the day. We stay on the ocean front in the condos. They have anywhere from 1-3 bedrooms and rent usually by the week. There is a full kitchen so you can save on meals. You can walk to the boardwalk in Bethany (small and quaint) via the beach or the street. I would suggest 5 Guys for burgers in town and the Cottage Cafe for a nice sit down dinner accross the street from the resort. The only issue I have is that the highrise buildings don%26#39;t give you that private beach cottage feel, but the trade off is the may ammenities.

Is Bethany Beach family friendly?

Definitely Bethany. I keep reading posts about families going to Dewey Beach - we call it ';Zooey Beach'; - and I wonder what that%26#39;s all about. Mother in law has a cottage in Dewey (she%26#39;s 90), and when she still had a car it wasn%26#39;t uncommon to find a naked male passed out in the car in the AM. Brother in law (an early riser) stays there too, and he%26#39;d just call the Dewey police to get the guys carted off before MIL awoke.

SEa Colony is great. You would never have to leave. If you don%26#39;t go anywhere you%26#39;ll miss a great boardwalk in Ocean City and some great reastuarants in the surrounding area . The Rehoboth Boardwalk has Playland which is great and very reasonable for the 10 and under set. Any Delaware beach other than Dewey is family friendly. Feed the parking meters and pay attention to the speed limits. They are heavily enforced.

Bethany Beach is definitely family friendly, so is Lewes (cape henlopen), Rehoboth Beach, and Fenwick Island. Dewey Beach is for drinking, and seeing live bands in bars. Anyhoo, yes, Bethany is an excellent choice, as would be Fenwick Island. Both very family-oriented and somewhat shunned by partiers.

My husband and I are from New York and we are considering visiting Bethany Beach in April with our two dogs. Can anyone offer advice? Is this a good time to visit? Are the restaurants open? Are the beaches dog friendly? Is it warm enough to walk along the beach?

April is a great time, especially if you like it uncrowded. Most of the larger restauarants are open %26#39;year round %26amp; even some of the shops. Your pooches can enjoy the beach all day, just clean up after them or face a fine. Weather can be iffy in April but it will surely be warm enough to walk the beach.

Bethany Beach in April

Try to go as late in April as possible. It%26#39;s a great time to go...before things get nuts. Too early in April and you might hit weather that is nice away from the beach but gets a bit dicey walking on the beach when the wind gets brisk off the Atlantic. Even weather in the 70s can get uncomfortable with a strong wind.

Another reason to go later in April is to guarantee that the restaurants and bars are open. Mango Mikes, for example, which is a really fun place to go with a Caribbean atmosphere, closes for the season and doesn%26#39;t re-open til the week before Easter (Sun, April 16th). So if you go before the middle of the month you might be disappointed.

We are two Moms looking to leave the kids at home with their Dads for a night while we go to the beach for a day and a half. We want to stay oceanfront in Fenwick Island. Any suggestions on nice quiet place to stay for one night?

The short answer is that there is only one oceanfront motel in Fenwick--Sea Charm. There is a 3-night minimum stay in season. 302-539-9613. Have never stayed, but my understanding is that it%26#39;s clean, albeit old and in need of a facelift.

You%26#39;re in luck. I grew up in Rehoboth and live in Virginia Beach. Both places are great. I like Rehoboth because it has an authentic boardwalk, as well as kiddie arcade/rides (perfect for kids your age). Is slower paced and is perfect for kids to be able to run around. It has a feeling of ';yester year';. There are also plenty of restuarants and shops. Rehoboth has one of the largest outlet centers in the United States. That being said, I find parking and accessibility harder in Rehoboth if you don%26#39;t actually stay down at the beach, but you will also find that there aren%26#39;t as many hotel choices at the beach. Most of them are out on Route 1. We are going back for a week in June and have booked a condo. Virginia Beach is beautiful and has a lot of resort hotels right on the strip. There is no ';authentic'; boardwalk. It has a couple of small kiddie ride arcades as well. Close by (5 miles from strip) is an water park called Ocean Breeze which is really great. There is also the Virginia Beach Marine Science Museum located pretty much in the same area. Personally my favorite is Rehoboth because of the boardwalk and the nostaligic feeling of it.

you could stay in dewey beach (which has more beachfront accomodations than rehoboth does), and still have access to all the restaurants, shops, boardwalk, etc. you can just hop on the jolly trolley back %26amp; forth.

we have a place in dewey %26amp; i often just walk up, but it%26#39;d be too much for your little ones.

This is a good idea Dogmom and I didn%26#39;t even think about that option. Is there a boardwalk that goes from beach to beach? Believe it or not even though I%26#39;ve been into Rehoboth too many times to count, I honestly don%26#39;t remember ever going into Dewey or Bethany. I%26#39;m going to go back this spring and a friend of mine is going to take me to which ever one of those two that have the other boardwalk area. Also, aren%26#39;t you just back from a trip? no, dewey has no boardwalk. the boardwalk begins at the very southern end of rehoboth, just north of silver lake.

but walkers can easily use either the beach or the street...both are nice to walk.

the two towns are just side by side. bethany%26#39;s apiece down south.

our dewey place is on the north side in a residential area, with a fair number of year-round residents on our block. we bought there because it%26#39;s dog friendly, really. although we occasionally go into dewey proper,maybe for lunch at ruddertown , we much more often go to eat/shop/whatever in rehoboth.

i think the beach ITSELF is nicer in dewey, personally.

oh, and yes, we just got back from puerta vallarta with a total of 1,000 of our closest friends. nice time,,,however, i%26#39;m spending a lot of time on the phone with lost %26amp; founds in airports HOPING to find my camera! wish me luck, i HATE to lose two weeks of irreplaceable pictures!
