I%26#39;m sure many of you remember this famous eatery, purchased by Irish Eyes a few years back but still wore the Anglers sign. This place dates to the 1930%26#39;s.
It was severly damaged last Sunday night/Mon morning in a blaze that had units from all over Sussex county responding.
The owners vow to rebuild but will take some time...

It%26#39;s totally gone, just a parking lot at present.

An impressive new building, much larger than the original, with huge 1st %26amp; second floor decks, is nearly complete on the outside...

Do I remember this was clear-cut arson and they caught the guys? Do you know anything about what happened to them?
Yes...it was arson %26amp; the perpetrator was apprehended...he set a 2nd fire the same night %26amp; sirens were sounding for hours that night. I don%26#39;t know if he has been sentenced but would assume he%26#39;s in jail.
We have also heard the new Irish Eyes is scheduled to open in November...it will certainly put a dent in LHR%26#39;s business (%26amp; other Lewes eateries/drinkeries).
UP DATE
The restaurant now expects to open in mid December .. 22 y.o. Lee Warington was sentenced to 27 years in jail with most of it suspended for probation.

What kind of system converts a 27-year sentence for a really serious crime to time spent mostly on the outside, on probation?!?
How demoralizing for the Anglers owners and staff!
