Hi everyone, I%26#39;m looking for a place to go this summer but i really can%26#39;t decide on where to go. I%26#39;m 20 and my boyfriend is 24, were pretty much looking for a place where there%26#39;s a mixture of cultures, a place that has a nice beach, and where i can dress up and go out at night....even if it%26#39;s just to a restaurant. So here%26#39;s the problem i can%26#39;t really decide which place....should i go to rehoboth beach, Ocean city maryland, viriginia beach, or any other suggestion.
PLEASE ANY ADVICE IS GOOD ADVICE.
thanks in advance
I REALLY need your help...
I would think you%26#39;d have the best time at Dewey Beach, of all the DE resorts. It is near Rehoboth and Lewes so you can take advantage of their great dining and shopping. Dewey is very much a 18-30 year old crowd with great bars and music in the summer. It is also in driving distance of Ocean City if you wanted to spend a day there too.
I REALLY need your help...
you could definitely dress up %26amp; go out at night in rehoboth. you could even STAY in dewey, spend the days on the beach there (it%26#39;s a beautiful beach) and walk or bicycle or take the jolly trolley to rehoboth for dinners - they have some VERY nice restaurants in rehoboth! also nice shops along the avenue %26amp; neighboring streets.
%26amp; dewey has the ';party bars';....as far as i know, they still have the steel band every afternoon on the deck at the rusty rudder overlooking the bay...nice spot to while away some time.
stay in either...they%26#39;re so close. rehoboth%26#39;s more of a ';town';, a bit more sophisticated.
Thanks for the replies... are both towns diverse with people of different races and so forth? Just want to go to a place where i feel like theres a mixture of people. Thanks again..
In the Rehoboth Beach / Dewey area you will find a wide assortment of cultures and lifestyles. You will find some outstanding restaurants.
when we bought our place in dewey in 1995, i%26#39;ll be honest with you...it was very ';white';. but every year, we see more and more racial %26amp; ethnic diversity (including our niece %26amp; her husband, who are a mixed couple %26amp; use our house for a week every summer with their kids %26amp; apparently have no problems or complaints)
i%26#39;d have to say it%26#39;s still predominantly ';white'; but we do see a good, friendly mix.
and definitely both places are ';diverse'; in the sense of having all different ages %26amp; types of people...as i said in a response to you on another question, rehoboth does have a very large gay population, which helps to make it a very interesting place..
but much more sophisticated than ocean city MD IMO....OC, although it does attract a wide range of people, has a tendency in the summer to have a lot of people your age who are, how to put it...less sophisticated than you seem to be %26amp; who tend toward the ';party till you puke %26amp; wear a vulgar t-shirt while doing so'; '; philosophy of life.
HAHA...never heard it put like that....I think that demographic also can be found in Wildwood but in Dewey as well (check the Starboard for hung-over specimens the morning after!)
Lewes is a great town too...you can stay in either Lewes, Rehoboth or Dewey %26amp; experience all 3 (just miles apart) and even Ocean City is a half hour away.
On the KW board we had a very apprehensive biracial gay couple, worried about gay bashing AND racism (shame this is even an issue) and they had a blast. I think Reho and Dewey are the same way. I haven%26#39;t been to Lewes in years, so I can%26#39;t comment, but Dewey and Reho have a similar feel to Key West, demographically, with a good gay population and proximity to DC, where biracial and/or gay is not an issue.
The only discrimination I ever felt in Reho was in reverse....my wife and I were made to feel unwelcome in a gay bar there. We frequent them here a few times a week and we%26#39;re part of the crowd, so we assumed the same.
As for the punks, I call them, I think narrow minded redneck jerks is allowed!
hey, daddio...glad you liked it!
dewey has its share for sure...%26amp; yes, the starboard can be pretty funny in the mornings!
but it seems like it%26#39;s easier to avoid those types in dewey than it is in OC.....sometimes if i%26#39;m up late i%26#39;ll hear some cries of WOOOO from afar, but it%26#39;s been a few years since anything really bothersome. (last bothersome incident had to have been at least 6 years ago, when some people in the backyard caddycorner to ours were entertaining themselves at 2 a.m. by running across their yard screaming %26amp; then leaping into a giant pile of empty beer cans!)
a truly classic ';drunk event'; is the running of the bull...ever seen that? it%26#39;s really quite funny!
keywest, that%26#39;s a shame....we haven%26#39;t really had that experience. one time during the christmas holidays, we spent a whole evening with another straight married couple playing pool in a gay bar %26amp; nobody batted an eye.
closest we%26#39;ve come to that was during the jazz festival a couple years ago. we were attracted by the music in one place, %26amp; went in...standing room only so we were leaned up against the wall listening....i guess we were standing with our arms crossed %26amp; one guy interpreted that as disapproval or something, i dunno....he kind of came up %26amp; challenged us with a ';what are YOU doing?';
i just gave a big smile %26amp; said %26#39;we%26#39;re listening to the music, isn%26#39;t it great?'; we ended up sitting at the bar talking for half an hour :-)
