Hotels near Dupont Theater, safe to walk?

Hi, We are coming to a show at the Dupont and I need help picking a hotel in the area. Was hoping to find one in walking distance to the theater. Hotel Dupont is more than I wanted to spend. Are the areas around the theater safe? Read horrible reviews of the Brandywine Suites, was considering the Doubletree Hotel Downtown on 7th and King based on the TA reviews.

Or am I better off picking one further away and just driving. We will be going to 3 weekend shows (a little crazy but I am bringing big AltarBoyz fans)

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Gosh, I really hate saying this, but I would not walk from the DuPont theater to the Doubletree at night. If you%26#39;re coming this summer, you could probably walk safely TO the theater, in the daylight, but I think you%26#39;d want to take a cab back. Courtyard or Sheraton Suites would be a safer walk. But I%26#39;m not sure I%26#39;d want to do those, either.

It sounds like you%26#39;re going to have a car. So depending on the price, you might want to stay at one of the hotels/motels on Concord Pike (Route 202). I know there%26#39;s a Homewood Suites -- a chain I personally love -- and I think a MacIntosh.

Parking near the DuPont Theater is easy and not too expensive. Sadly, there%26#39;s not a whole lot to do in downtown Wilmington after office hours and on weekends. So you may be happier out in the northern suburbs anyway.

Wythany, Thanks for that info. I guess I%26#39;ll look at the Courtyard or the ones on Concord Pike that you mentioned. I will have 2 teens (16 %26amp; 18) with me and I was hoping they could just walk back and forth to the shows but it doesn%26#39;t sound like I%26#39;ll be doing that.

Back4more --

Homewood Suites, MacIntosh, and Courtyard Brandywine are off 202 north of Wilmington, right across a busy highway from Concord Mall -- Macy%26#39;s, Boscov%26#39;s, and Sears are the anchor stores. On the same side as the hotels, there%26#39;s a Kohl%26#39;s within walking distance. Also close on the hotel side of the road are a cluster of chain restaurants like Red Lobster and Olive Garden.

So if your teens like shopping, the suburban motels would have that close by. Maybe another factor is whether there%26#39;s an indoor pool?

Wow, I just realized you%26#39;re probably talking about three performances of the same show??!!? They *are* big fans, aren%26#39;t they! If there%26#39;s no time for anything but the theater, maybe the closest hotel makes sense. Walk in the daylight, cab back in the dark . . .

Hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks! Your comments were very helpful. Switched from the Doubletree to the Courtyard downtown (they say they%26#39;re 3 blocks away) And I%26#39;ll make good use of your shopping suggestions while they are at the shows. (I%26#39;m only going to one!)

I would not walk anywhere in downtown Wilmington at night. The city is crime-ridden and assaults and muggings are common. Drive to any place you go.

Thanks for the advice. We%26#39;re used to NYC where there is no problem walking from shows to restaurants to hotels at any time of day /night. Actually, everyone does it, so much easier than driving and/or parking! So I guess for the Sat night show in Wilmington, which I am going to, I%26#39;ll drive the 3 blocks.
