Ferry reservation

We are wondering if a reservation is necessary for the ferry from Cape May to Lewes? Our plans are to go to Cape May, but we don%26#39;t know the time of day when we will arrive, depends on our stops. We are coming from NJ. Also, what would be the fastest way to get from Lewes to northern DE and then west into Maryland without going close to Washington DC traffic? Also, the must sees along this route. We will spend one night in DE, any suggestions on CLEAN and cheap. Thank you for your assistance. Our day in DE will be the Sat. of Memorial day week-end, if this is any help.

Ferry reservation

Coming on the holiday weekend I definately would get ferry reservations Most hotels in the resort area where the ferry will be bringing you will have 3 night minimun on that weekend and not much availability left. from the ferry follow signs for Rt 1 northafter you cross C%26amp;D Canal look for signs for Newark and Glascow. They are adjacent to Elkton , Md After getting off the ferry enjoy down town Lewes before rushing off.It is the first town in the first state . The Cannonball Museum on Front St is worth a visit .You may also be interested in the tax free shopping outlets on Rt 1 between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. This is a holiday weekend !!!Please don%26#39;t judge our area by the holiday traffic jams.

Ferry reservation

Is it possible to change your dates? I%26#39;m afraid your experience will be marred by some of the heaviest traffic of the year, and if you don%26#39;t already have motel reservations, you may be too late (if anyplace will even allow you to reserve just one night on that weekend).

It would be great to have ferry reservations (costs just $5. more) but you have to specify which departure 24 hrs ahead, , so if you%26#39;re not sure of your arrival time, you will just have to wait like everyone else for the next ferry you can fit on. It probably won%26#39;t make much difference because with reservations, you have to be there 30 minutes early anyway. There will be plenty of cars in the lanes, but the good news is, on that day they will have many more departures than any other date (about one every 45 minutes to an hour).

As far as your question on driving into MD, not sure how far north you meant but Rt. 896 might be what you want...this separates from 1N before the C%26amp;D canal %26amp; would take you to Newark but you can head west on 40 into Elkton, etc.

Thank you Longneckey and daddio361 for your replies! We greatly appreciate your taking the time to give us some information. Unfortunately, we can%26#39;t change plans as I have reservations made in Philadelphia for earlier in the week. We want to go north of Lewes and into the NW part of Maryland, trying to avoid the DC traffic. We will stop at Lewes and look around. Where is the exact location of the outlet? The reason I don%26#39;t want to make reservations for the ferry is that I don%26#39;t know when we will get out of Philly and the driving time due to holiday traffic. Should we just skip the ferry or will there be a very good chance we could get on? Sat. night we plan on being somewhere in northern DE, but again hard to make a reservation ahead. Most of the nights I have already made reservations, but Sat. night we just don%26#39;t know. Where should we turn west? Thank you.

There are 3 outlets on route 1 between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach 2 are on southbond side one is on northbound. Is there a reason you are coming from Philadelphia to Southern De and then going north? I 95 out of Phila would put you right around Newark which as I said is next to Glasgow , Md. If you were coming for the weekend I%26#39;m sure you would have a great timebut I honestly would not reccomend a one day drive through over Memorial Day weekend.

Longnecker, thank you for sharing the locations of the outlet? The reason we are considering going to NJ is to see the Cape May lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean. Part of our family has never seen the Atlantic Ocean, but maybe we should wait for another trip.

tourist2, skip Delaware and the ferry ride and just stay in Cape May. Plenty of B%26amp;B%26#39;s and motels to pick from. I do not know if they will have a 2-3 day minimum reservation plan for the Memorial Day weekend or not. You can see the Atlantic Ocean in Cape May and do some shopping at Washington Street Mall and sight-seeing, too. Cape May is full of large, beautiful victorian architecture homes . Check out www.capemay.com for information and directions. The only thing Delaware will offer you on Memorial Day is traffic and of course, tax-free shopping.

Please don%26#39;t get the wrong idea about the negative posts regarding traffic over the holiday weekend .

I moved here on purpose. Beautiful area great people . Because of that the area is growing rapidly. The road system just cannot keep up with all the traffic. I have seen it take 15 minutes to get on to route 1 with a trafic light. If you could get here on a weekday it would be a great experience . Holiday weekend not a positive experience. Dave
