work and travel

Most of the foreign student summer workers get together in group rentals. There is an internet store on 1st street that seems to help them get together. Rentals are very expensive . Please ride trhe bus to work at Nike. riding bikes on the highway is very dangerous and we have people hurt seriously every year.

work and travel

please listen to longnecker as far as riding bicycles to work is concerned. it is VERY dangerous to ride them on route 1, especially in the dark. there have been many injuries and one death i can remember (a young lady from somewhere in eastern europe).

i wish i could help with the accomodation question...longnecker is correct in what he said, but i don%26#39;t know how to direct you toward the people who can help. i do wish you luck and a safe %26amp; pleasant summer!

if i find anything out in the near future, i will post again with the information.

I know there is a volunteer group of churches that meets the incoming workers to help them with finding a place to stay, food, etc. I will try to find a name/contact email for you.

You would do well to try to find a job in the city itself so you don%26#39;t have to commute to work in Route 1, as these folks said. It is a very busy highway and dangerous.

This volunteer group from the churches also gives out free bicycle helmets. If you must cycle, WEAR YOUR HELMETS!!

thanks, beachmom...

i was THINKING there was a volunteer group but could not remember any details. i%26#39;d thought about calling the cape gazette to inquire when i got down this weekend. i seem to remember the rehoboth library being some sort of a connection as well.

i do remember the free helmet giveaway, too....most of the kids i saw cycling on the highway last year didn%26#39;t seem to take advantage, though :-(

As far as housing goes, your best chance is to find an apartment and share rent. Over 1000 students come to Rehoboth area every summer and struggle to find housing. There are several places such as Sanibel Village and Eagles Landing that are on the west side of Route One, the same side as the Outlets. There are many houses downtown that also rent for the season. Check with the company you have the job offer, they may have better contact information for housing.

There are students that are seriously injured every year riding on the highway. There has also been at least one or two deaths every year. These accidents happen not because the students are reckless or the Americans can%26#39;t drive, but because the cultures have different comfort levels. Europeans are used to driving with bicycles sharing the road space. Americans are not. Please please please be careful. Helmet, lights, and blinking reflectors are all available -- use them.

Have a great summer!

1000 students come in for seasonal work! Wow, that%26#39;s an amazing statistic, but it makes sense I guess.
